If you're doing the comic jam, and you want to chat with other people also doing the comic jam, you should pop into the Newgrounds Art Tinychat Room!
It gives it all a kind of fun community vibe, I think, being in a room with other people in the same competition.
The theme has now been posted!
And that theme is: 'Stolen'!
Come on and slam, and welcome to the fourth ever Comic Jam, everybody!
Here you compete with others to create the best comic within three days based around a certain theme that you can.
A few weeks ago I posted a thread detailing the specifics of the comic jam, which can be seen here. But here's a brief rundown of the rules before I give you the theme:
The Lowdown
Your mission if you should choose to accept it is to create a narrative comic of preferably a number of pages (though infinite canvas style comics are good too) within 3 days, ending on Sunday the 24th at 11:59pm EST. The comic can be any length you like. While I'm tasking my self to draw a 24 page comic (though I am not competing, due to being a judge), this is not necessary.
You CAN work with a partner.
For more details on the rules please see the Information Thread.
How to submit
You can host the pages of your comic any way you like, be it in the art portal, in your NG dump, on a blog you have made especially. Anything.
But in submitting the comic to this thread, you must post the first page here using the 'Include Image?' function, and have links to the rest of the pages. Do not use more than one post. See how it was done last time here.
Once the comic jam is done the three judges will decide on the winners.
Here's the submissions thread from the last jam to show everyone examples of how to submit their comics:
The Judges
The judges in this competition will be:
Me (Aigis)
Hyptosis

The Prizes
1st: $40 NG Store Credit
2nd: $30 NG Store Credit
3rd: $20 NG Store Credit
Now without further ado:
The theme!
The theme for this Comic Jam is:
'Stolen'
You can interpret that any way you please. The sky is indeed the limit.
Remember: This thread is for submissions only! Do not post anything other than your final submission in this thread! For WIPs, and discussion please use the Information Thread!
Here's my submission:
This is my submission for the Sketchswap contest. It was based on a sketch done by Newgrounds user Lintire, that you can see ...

I did a page for my comic in colour for once. I'm quite happy with it.
I drew wankwest's character in the I'll Draw Your Character - My Style thread and then I coloured it differently.

That is super cool.

For some reason I imagined your character angry and jumping.

Here you go.
I submitted something to the art portal for the first time in a while.
I'm gonna be fine. You're gonna be fine. We're gonna be fine.

Thank you. They come from my head.
One of these is an old character design I decided to try again for some reason.

He didn't. He didn't have the power to do that.
The general advice people give is that you should know how to draw things accurately, even when you're abandoning realism for stylistic reasons.
At 2/2/13 05:55 PM, Mohabot wrote: So am I allowed to participate in this?
Anyone can participate. It is an open competition.

I didn't make the Tinychat room, Spaghetti did.

Yes it has to be done in the time allotted.
But you don't even have the theme yet. How could you get started on the writing?

I respect people who try to make a career doing what they love.
I remember being happy with this back when I was 16 or 17 or something, which was more or less the first time I was consciously trying to improve my art abilities (I think I gave up practicing after about a month).
So I'll use this as an example of the first time I was proud of a drawing.

Sounds awkward.
Because, tits...
What.
Is the fact that it's about a lesbian romance some sort of punchline in your comic?

Or if you're interested in doing whatever the requester is asking but are not willing to work without money you could make a respectful offer, or negotiate with them privately, rather than make a big deal about shaming people who don't want to pay.
Wanting to do more character design practice.

This seems more like it would require a collaboration than an "I pay you to do things for me" deal.
Hi everyone!
I know you like comics. I know you like jam(s). Well lucky for you, it's that time of half-year again. The time of half-year for the Comic Jam.
This is the fourth Comic Jam I've run. Four. 4. If you know a thing or four about comics, you'll know that the number 'four' occurs in the title of the comic 'Fantastic Four'. We are under lucky stars my friends (Lucky Star is also a comic).
You can see the submissions of the last Comic Jam here, and the one before that here.
What is it?
Similar to the Game Jam, the Comic Jam is a competition in which everyone is given a theme, and tasked to create a narrative-based comic based on that theme within three days. The theme will be given at the beginning of those three days.
What is a narrative-based comic?
A comic that tells a story, as opposed to a simple gag comic of the likes of Garfield.
Can I work with (a) partner/s?
Certainly! If you're an artist that wants to join but you're worried you can't write, then you can join up with a writer to create some sort of super comic. The same goes if you are a writer that cannot draw.
Artists can also team up with other artists to create comics together, if they want. For example, one person could do line art while the other colours. Be creative!
You can use this thread to find a partner if you want to. But don't feel obligated to work with a partner, if you would prefer to work on your own.
How long should the comics be?
They can be any length you like, but the idea behind the Comic Jam is to create a comic that tells a story, which one-page comics are not necessarily well suited to. Ideally the comics should span a number of pages. Though don't necessarily feel limited to organising your comic into 'pages'. 'Infinite canvas' style comics are also a valid approach.
As usual, I, personally, will be challenging myself to create a 24-page comic (by myself) during the time (though I will not be competing, due to being a judge). If anyone wants to join me in that endeavour, then that's great, but not at all necessary. It's a super fun challenge though.
What are the prizes?
1st: $40 NG Store Credit
2nd: $30 NG Store Credit
3rd: $20 NG Store Credit
That sounds great! When is it?
The Comic Jam will begin at 12:01am EST on Friday the 22nd of February, when the theme is given, and will end at 11:59pm EST on Sunday the 24th of February.

Please use this thread for any questions relating to the Comic Jam. And if people post in the thread that they'd like to compete in this competition, then I'd be glad to PM them when it starts as a reminder.
I'm also looking for some people to judge the final entries. If this sounds like something you'd want to do, post in this thread and volunteer. Preferably the judges of this competition would be people that have experience making comics, or at the least count reading comics as one of their hobbies.
