It's called "making different patterns". You do a short drum beat, then switch to pattern 2, then do your bassline, then pattern 3, to do a lead.
You don't do it all in the same pattern. Although, some people do that.. like RageIV.
The playlist is important as hell, it arranges your patterns you made.
Yeah, good 'ol Simon. I find that his only really good tips are ones on arrangment, structure, and instrumentation, but not so much the engineering or fine tuning that really completes a track.
