Like

_root.attachMovie("libEnemy", "mcEnemy", _root.getNextHighestDepth, {_x: 100, _y: 100, _rotation: 100});

Hey it works! Thanks!

The thing is that with attachMovie(), you can have dynamic displays of MCs on the stage. Lots of things are just easier to code than to have to animate.

So I should just go ahead, and start using this method then?

Also, where do I add it's x and y? Is that the depth?

You reduce the amount of things you'd have to put manually onscreen. Random fireworks is one example, and it's much easier to script it than to manually animate a million possibilities.

So basically...If my player is fighting an army of identical soldiers, and if I do one soldier and attach him like that a million times, the movie would be faster right?

So I've been hearing about this for some time, Also when I download free source .FLA's some just don't have anything on screen, yet the game is all there when you export.

So what is all this, how do you do it, and what are its advantages?

This might not do anything, but in the File menu if you click 'Save and compact' flash will delete any unused data thats not on the stage. If you have anything like that it will reduce its size, but seeing as you said the .swf file is also bloated im not sure if this will help, just an idea.

I have been looking for the option that does that...thanks.

You should also check out swift 3d, it's pretty cool.

Swift 3d and flash, wierd things Posted December 9th, 2008 in Game Development

Now I've been using Swift 3d for easy 3d flash. Whenever I export, the swf is about 400 kb. I then decompile it and add it to my flash movie which is like... 80 kb... (there's nothing in it except some text and stuff) So total, it doesn't exceed 500kb. And I'm happy with that.

The next day, I put some more animation ( a ball going from left to right) then after a while, I find the flash movie is 5 mb!!!! And the .fla is 50 mb!!!!! I copy everything in the movie and past it in a new file, save and the swf is 500 kb. The next day without touching it, it's 5 mb...

What the F? Do flash movies grow over night these days? I'm sure I didn't mess around with the movie THAT bad for it to grow 4 mb suddenly.... Does anyone know why this could be happening?

Or...probably just me...screw that, does anybody know how can I export swift 3d movies that won't be 10 mb per 15 sec animation?

Yep, it works. It's huge, though, but I deleted the two globes (the buttons) and replaced them with simpler things. That cut it down by about 1.5 MB's.

So it's about 2.5 mb now...cool.

And did you fix "the" and "collab"?

I just PMed the download link, (the .FLA is a whopping 13mb!!! Also if it so happens that the other parts don't fit with the menu, I could take out "Universe" or the two globes or something. Just so you know, the background is only 1 mb. while the universe and the globes are 3 for some reason)

Also, what part is available? If it's something easy, I might be able to do it 3D and it won't be more than 700kb. If not, I could try doing it normally. I mean I'm an okay 2d flash animator (the flashes I have submitted in the portal aren't really a good sample of my work)

I have been working on the big bang for another project I'm working on...but I'll post that later....

P.S. I also got a new set of 3d models (planes, buildings, other planets etc...)

And how the hell do you outline with a pencil? It never works for me, I always use the pen tool.

Response to: How do i make a Easter Egg Button? Posted December 5th, 2008 in Game Development

I don't see a difference between "a Easter egg" button and a normal button. Just, make a button, hide it, put the correct code on it (the on press thing) and that's it...

Response to: The Universe Collab Posted December 5th, 2008 in Game Development

Also, rollover the play and scene select for the globes to rotate.

And has the guy who makes the Big Bang done yet? Cuz I'm trying to make a Big Bang for another solo project I'm working on, and just can't do it....

Response to: The Universe Collab Posted December 5th, 2008 in Game Development

Okay so I've managed to compact it a litte, it's now 4mb with even better quality (funny how that works)

Once again no preloader menu

Also, the background alone is one megabyte, the two globes and cool text are 3 mb. Also.you should work on the other text to make it look like you want, cuz I didn't really work on that...

P.S: I've tested the movie and it loads, you just have to wait...

i think it's just:

var item = 1

then to check it:

trace(item);

see if that works and tell me.

Response to: Your experience with CS4 Posted December 4th, 2008 in Game Development

Yeah dude it's friggin awesome!!! I mean with the bone tool, animating is so much easier. Like making a pair of smooth walking legs and arms talks about....30 seconds man. It's pretty cool. So far no problems.

Response to: Zone of the Awesome Posted December 1st, 2008 in Game Development

....Wait a second.... YOU GOT THAT FAKE CREDITS THING FROM MGS4 DIDN'T YOU!!!

If so....Well it's a hideo kojima parody, it SHOULD include his ideas...

If not...guess your thinking on a Hideo Kojima level now.....

If you want a good animation, it will take a lot longer than 2 seconds.

With flash cs4, creating a smooth walking motion takes 10 seconds!!! Buy now! only [insert ridiculously high price here]!!!

Response to: I've drawn him how do I animate him Posted November 29th, 2008 in Game Development

I guess the only thing left is to re-trace him and colour him in flash then use the bone tool on him...

Teehee, that's pretty funny.

Want to animate?
Draw that beautiful guy one more time, in a little bit of a different spot.
Then if you have a program like Flash, put the pictures on separate keyframes.
Repeat the re-drawing process about,
eh, i don't know, maybe 1000 times.

And Voilà! You have an animation!

Good luck. :]

That's exactly why I'm asking this, I don't want to draw it 1000 times, instead use the bone tool and do awesome animation in 2 seconds....

Interesting... That would be the old method of animating a drawn object. But if I wanted to use the bone tool, flash would still think of it as a gradient...I'll do it anyway, and It wouldn't really differ that much from bones to manual animating...Thanks for the help.

And if anyone figures out how to make flash think it's a drawn object not a gradient, what are you waiting for? tell me!

So I've drawn this.

Picture

(haven't put hands yet) And I've also recently gotten Flash CS4 which has the incredible bone tool which perfectly animates stuff. However it treats this picture as a gradient, so whenever I try to move it with the bone tool, the part I moved disappears, does anyone know anything I can do to move it properly with the bone tool?

Start with Flash CS4, and there's loads of tutorials out there. Start on www.flashkit.com there's good and simple tutorials there. Also before doing anything, just try experimenting and trying all the tools in flash, just to get familiar.
