Moving them, making them, moving the ammunition, and moving the parts can take a lot out of you. Make sure you bring the engineers and miners(yes, you use them in battle. Don't make me hurt you).
Crossbow: The powerful ones take too much to set up(two people just to winch it! Freakin-a!), and the weaker ones are too weak. I prefer bows to arm my infantry. But crossbow and calvery really mix well! While horse archers take a while to train, crossbow archers take less time and are just as effective. They are only good with flanting manuvers, you wouldn't want to front them at a charge. And they really shine at keeping retreating foes from regrouping.
War horses: ARGHH! I have mixed feelings on them. People tend to rely on them, but they have their pros and cons. The horses are logistically bad. You have to feed them, train them, transport them. And no, you can't push them at all. Galloping them over a distance is a good way to kill them. And in battle, they can be fairly good against infantry and missle attacks, but they do make a bigger target. It's a toss up. But they do give you an intimidating factor and are good chargers. You really have to know where to use them.
