And the day Israel and International Judaism celebrates candle oil that burned for 8 nights in a row. But it's only celebrated in such a festive way because they feel the need to compete with the harvest and holiday season (a central component being Christmas, a pagan winter solstice holiday that Christianity lies about to pretend they're celebrating Jesus's birthday).
We're really just celebrating the economy!

2. Vladimir Putin
--- A political leadership genius who has strengthened Russia on the world stage despite the utter collapse of the previous government while also working to bridge several cultures within his own nation and using strategic corruption.
3. Bill Gates
--- Do I need to explain this one? He's not only using billions of dollars that he earned by accelerating the economy, transforming culture, and playing a good hand at capitalism to eradicate polio and finance development, but he has convinced other billionaires to do the same.
4. IBM Watson
--- A cognitive computing system which dethroned Ken Jennings at the age of 6, graduated medical school at age 8, and is currently applying for jobs in education, finance, medicine, search optimization, customer service, and even fashion.

Because Violtentacrez is responsible for wrecking the public perception of Reddit by inviting people to take pictures of young women without their consent.
And because ShitRedditSays is responsible for destroying the Violentacrez's life just because he expressed his sexuality online and invited other people to do the same, while they completely ignore subreddits which make a game of gawking at attractive men and never speak a bad word about misandrists.

The same could be said with any site.
I think they are both pretty crap tbh, I dont care for them
It's really not the same. Reddit is a link aggregator which is 100% customizable, and the ranking algorithm is what makes it powerful. There is always something new. Parallel to that is a comment section, and in it there is always someone who is educated on the subject or has experience with whatever, and there are millions of users from all different walks of life. Funny people, clever and creative people, etc. Unlike forums (like the one we're on and basically all forums tbqh) the moderation is mostly unobtrusive and the mod-wannabe popularity contest is nonexistent. Not much drama; it's nice.
Also, people have made millions of dollars by gaming the system in AdviceAnimals, written scripts which were picked up for Hollywood films (Rome Sweet Rome), and made a living from entrepreneurial or investment advice. It's pretty cool.
On the negative:
1. When a link is popular in /r/all, the number of people sending requests to the servers can crash the site being linked to. Reddit kiss of death.
2. Or it can crash Reddit, which is what happened when B. Obama did an AMA.
3. There are a lot of people who down vote comments they disagree with, even if they're good comments, making it necessary to switch to View Controversial a lot.
4. If you do something creepy on Reddit (Google Violentacrez) people will ruin your life for it.
5. If you do something stupid (Google Euphoric Atheist) people will ruin your self-esteem for it.
6. People lie and manipulate others in the comments all the fucking time. Demand evidence.

OK, so you've made the exact same 'it's not going to work out' post that evrry single person who never profits from market volatility makes every single time a new financial product starts to rise.
Please link those posts, we can line it up to the timestamps on bitcoin histories, and test your batting average.
Regardless of whatever education and intuition I may have, I'd be curious to see if you can explain to me why "this time it's different." Explain to me how the hockey stick shaped price growth for bitcoins is completely rational and is a rare exception to the speculative bubble trend that it follows to a tee.
This is the exact same 'hockey stick growth' and legion of 'all-knowing economists' who crawl out of the woodwork every time someone mentions Supply and Demand. It happened in Aug 2012. We saw it in February. We're seeing it in November. Who says we won't see another in October 2014? Or a steady growth?

I don't think that's going to happen. They would launch their own cryptocurrency or buy up a competitor (like ZeroCoin or LightCoin).

Exactly. There was a thread about this in General about 2-3 years ago when the exchange rate was a lot lower (Bitcoin Charts can't be accessed right now because the entire worldwide media is trying to visit the site lol) I think the price was about $2USD for 1BTC.
Six months ago it was $200USD for 1BTC.
Now it's $1000USD for 1BTC.
What's next? Hell, we could be talking about the "good old days when bitcoin was worth a thousand" when it hits a million dollars per coin.

Right. There are also legal places to use bitcoins, like delicatessens in Manhattan, random stores that have decided to accept bitcoins, and Virgin Galactic. Decentralized cryptocurrency is here to stay, and it's only going to grow in popularity as time wears on.

All games would be launched directly to PC if it weren't for this stupid tradition of buying video game consoles. Instead, we have to wait for hackers to circumvent DRM and port them illegally. How many PC games have ever been ported to a new generation console without development contracts? Oh, that's right: NONE, because of the invasive DRM procedures.

You can't create your own "gold" as a currency equal to existing Gold in rarity / quality but you can create an identical mining system to bitcoin and only slightly tweak it and as long as people adopt that, then bitcoin collapses, though I'd imagine there would be exchange rates between coins? I have no idea. [removed some] Also not sure if quantum computing would break bitcoin wipe open, creating a massive boon in mining production... though that'd probably happen over the span of a few years so you could prepare.
You kind of replied to a large idea here, but I think I got a sense of one aspect of Bitcoin which you might not be aware of.
There is a limit to the number of new bitcoins which are created, and new bitcoins are only created when a "mining operation" cracks encryption. Every time the encryption is cracked, it gets tougher to crack the next hash. So even if we had a huge mining operation, it would just make bitcoin more secure. You would spend a lot of money to outperform existing mining operations, making it tougher to make any money.
ignore this:
