I got into the pitfall of getting really good at my own game, it seems. What level were you able to get too? I don't want to make it too easy, but having it be that difficult is no fun either.

I agree with him. Its to difficult. It just gets borring when i go a whole minute without hitting anything useful. Im assuming you have it so that you need to click directly on it to destroy it. But it might be nice if the hit area whent just a bit further then the artwork. Not enough to make it noticable that you are destroying things without clicking on them, just enough that when they are moving fast you have a higher chance of hitting it.

The explosions 'freezing' is not an intended event, and to accommodate for it I tried various ways to remove the objects from the screen so that if one froze, it wouldn't linger there. I was hoping the problem would be small enough that it would hardly be noticed.

I got alot of unfinished explosions. It is very noticeable at the moment.

Maybe you can increase the number of upgrades that come out. There a little to rare of an occurance. And a nice visual cue that getting the upgrade actually did something. Like the red orbs pulsing or something more dramatic. Seems in this kind of game you have alot of chances to do some crazy effects.

But yah, good game. Might want to tweek it around to make it a little more enjoyable over more then a minute or two of gameplay, but its going good so far.

Very interesting.

Made all of the geometry with cardboard. Used some tubing i found for the tubes in the side and bought some wire for the wire mesh face. Filled in the cracks and cardboardy looking parts with paper mache. Then used a paint medium called molding paste to create a texture all over (with a close detail you can see alot of nice texture). Spray painted it black. Used acrylic paint over that to give it its final look.

Took a good amount of work. Might be getting a tatoo of Pyramid head from one of the prizes i got a bar last night.

Problem is that very few people actually recognized that it was Silent Hill. So not many people even made the connection when they seen us.

But yah, thanks comments on the costumes. One last Pic.

That is one of the most awesome Halloween costumes I've ever seen... Must have taken quite a bit of time I reckon?

A good week and a half of work. Fell behind on some homework, but it was worth it.

One more pick of the other costume i made. My girlfriend. Silent Hill nurse.

Its simply to much to ask. Its the nature of game development. If every idea was completely original, they would be a point where there is simply no more ideas. There is no such thing as infinite possibuilitys. We have a computer, monitor, mouse, keyboard and a browser. We are limited by these things. There is only so many original ideas that you can squeeze out of these limitations.

Dont get me wrong, i love it when someone does something completely original. Hell, im happy if something even remotely original was done. But i just dont think its possible for every game to be original. Its all of those unoriginal games that make the few origonal ones stand out and be special.

Plus, comming up with a original idea is alot harder then i first thought it would be. You'd think it would be easy, but its not. Comming up with something that "clicks" with your audience and has yet to be done is a hard thing to accomplish.

They are a real pain in the ass. But its looking really good. I always like to add a flash of light at the start of an explosion, and maybe it needs to start off faster. The start of an explosion should be really fast, and everything starts to slow down during the whole thing. Gives it all a little more of a punch.

Yes, if you are a student you can get the software for less then 300$. Look for an educational liscence on Adobe's site (Not made by Macromedia anymore). You will need some kind of proof that you are a student, like a scan of student ID or something.

I'd say the gradients he used were more interesting then the one you suggested he use there. Aside from the transparency.

As far as the color is concerned, red pops far to much to be in a background. Blue recedes, making it good for a background, as apposed to red, which tends to pop, making it awkward as a background element.

The idea itself is a bit iffy. But maybe if you added more circles, but made them alot more transparent, they would be alot less intrusive to a website and read more like a background.

When I loaded up the portfolio section I was greeted with a blank page (or so I thought). I had to scroll down to navigate the images.

Something i did not realize until after uploading everything to the site. Unfourtunate to say the least.

The 3D model's good as is the interactive sketchbook (shame you can't go backwards though).

I think the most i can do at this point is making a back button as apposed to being able to flip it back. Flipping it back would be alot of work that i simply dont have the time to be doing right now.

My site needs a massive overhaul (which I'll be doing next year), I can never seem to settle on a good design though.

Yah, design seems to be a big thing with all this. This is my first web page, and i can easily see its design shortcommings. I figured a site as simple as this would be easy to design, but i thought wrong obviously.

The site itself is very new. Version 1. Kinda tediouse to navigate and i need to do some odds and ends, but an opinion on the content and basic elements would help.

I spent most of the time playing being buged by the music. Simply because i reconized it but could not figure out what the hell it was from. Theme of Laura FTW!

Anyway, sems like a good game overal. Nice little engine. I think you could do some more work on the hit detection.

The art style is pretty nice. Try adding a hint of color to it maybe. Like making the stars yellow or something. Something to give it a bit more of a visual kick.

That simply wont do. It might make sense to you, but its terribly frustrating to the player. Maybe if you make the code VelY<=-3 or something. That would allow the player to double jump when he feels like it, but when he is all out falling, he cant. Might have to change the 3 ofcourse. But then again, the simple fact that sometimes it works, and sometimes not, is frustrating enough. I would suggest letting them use it all the time or not at all.

The speed of the character is much to fast. For a sonic game, no, because there are long stretches of runways and such. But navigating small platforms such as this is a pain in the ass with such speed. Slow that sucker down. Even if its only his acceleration.

And im having a hard time getting anywhere in the first level. I'm really not sure what im supposed to be doing after those dissapearing platforms. And even then its a fairly daunting task. Whether im a dumb player or not is irrelevant, you have to compensate for that.

I also encounter a tad bit of slowdown when the platforms dissapear. Probably has something to do with the alpha going down and probably the dust at my feet. Either way, its something to look at. Alpha=Bad.

But yah, i am liking the engine alot. Animation is smooth, platforms feel stiff, and i have a slight attachment to the character even though its simply a placeholder. lol. Good luck with the rest.

Interesting little rant. Mostly because the people you describe are essentially me. Parents with too much money (and me no appreciating it enough), not able to deal with serious shit, and i bought all the seasons of The Office and watched them while working on artwork in my studio. lol. Good stuff.

Anyway, to bad to hear your hating it all so much. Sounds like a pretty shitty institution. My instructors are very passionate and i learn alot from a few of the other students at least. Most are lazy hicks that just want to party every weekend, but some are a little more interesting then that. Thankfuly there is no shortage of those in the Fine Arts. : )
