Back to Sound Like Depressing Lives?

Edited at 2014-10-12 03:03:15

At my workplace, because it's a night shift, a lot of my co-workers are nice but some of the older ones are odd. Then again, they are middle aged and have to work at such a crappy minimum wage job. We work as stockers at a Big Lots store from 10 pm to 6 am 4 nights a week.

I have two co-workers, one a female in her 50s, and another a male in his 30s. Both of them are single, have no kids, and are distant from their parents. The female not only doesn't have kids, she has never had a husband, only dated a few times in her life, and is an only child. She didn't like her parents or step-parents, and said she isn't even sure if they are alive, but said she heard they "may have died over 20 years ago" and said she was thrilled when she heard they died. However, she seems okay with her life living in a small apartment and having to work a graveyard shift job, and having few friends and no family to speak of.

The other guy, who is in his 30s, is an associate manager and makes $12 per hour but not a lot. We got into conversations about our lives a little bit, and he did say he served in the Navy for a while, but the sad thing is he has no family, and apparently no spouse or date. He has a weird voice, is loud, and is described by a few other people as "white trash." He smokes a lot of cigarettes, and has to work a crappy job and living by himself. He also is estranged from his parents, and does not contact them often.

It just seemed depressing to me. Two individuals working a shitty job even into their mid-life and having no children, no girl/boyfriend or spouse, and not even contacting or seeing their parents or siblings (if they have any).

Would you like to have a life like that? It made me appreciate my life more, and I don't even really like my life.
