A friend of mine once misplaced their pager. They looked everywhere, but couldn't find it. When the snow began to melt, they noticed it on their front lawn. If I'm not mistaken, it still worked, but they had already purchased a new one.

If you are too young to have seen a pager, it's the thing that came directly after smoke signals. The Amish use them for communication because they can be carved out of a block of wood with no electronic parts necessary.
