Dude, this brings me back! It also reminds me of a cheat I figured out. If you go to the title screen (On the original Sonic 2 for Sega Genesis) and you go to the Options menu, you can play these songs in this order: 1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4. Once you hear the sound, confirming you entered it right, the Oil Ocean song should get stuck playing forever. You can play through the game, yet you'll only hear that one song, even sound effects are cut out. I'm not sure if this works for every Sonic 2 for Sega Genesis, but it happened on mine. You should remix some Shadowgate 64 songs.

A very good song, but a little too... how should I say... calm? I don't know, I just imagined Oil Ocean to be rather hectic. Don't get me wrong though, it's a good song.

Oil Ocean was perhaps one of my favorite Sonic 2 levels. Admittedly, the randomly placed robotic seahorses pissed me off a bit, but it was a fun level, especially the boss (and the fact that it was much harder to die in the water). THis song really does capture the elements that make this song unique.
