Really interesting beginning here.
You start us out with a nice slow piano, then you slap us in the face with a mind blowing trance song!

I'm really loving your kick. I'm a HUGE fan of good kicks, and you've satisfied my kick tooth with this one.
The bass was pretty good as well. A little fatter wouldn't have been bad, but I think it's fine the way it is.
The high hat was really interesting as well. It's like nothing I've ever heard before. It's really interesting. I'm liking it.

You're break down of the song. MY GOD! I'm loving the slow parts of this song the most. I think they could have been a song on it's own. They're that good. The strings were perfect. The Rolling snares were a nice touch. The piano on the other hand seemed a little distant. It didn't seem to be in the same room as the strings and drums..you know what I'm saying? ;D
Your crashes were nice as well. Something I've hear before, but it adds the right amount of ambiance to the song.
Your FX are PERFECT in the parts you've used them. They really do the song justice.

Your leads are great. I'm loving them. You've got the gate going in the background to give the song body. It's loud enough so you can hear it, but soft enough not to over power the rest of the song.
The lead saw was a tad loud. If it were just a little softer I think it would have complimented the song nicely.

Amazing work. Keep it up!

Author's Response:

Hey, TMM43, thanks for stopping by to review! :D And yep - I've always wanted to introduce a song like this and with this one, I finally got the chance! >:)

I thought the kick was awesome too - we all have a "kick tooth," don't we? XD As for the bass, I chose a synth with very little going on in the low range, and then EQed it further, so I would have plenty of room for the boom of the kick - see, I like both a bassy bass synth and one like I used in this song, but it all depends on how they fit into the mix. For this song, the boom of the kick needed to be clearly audible, so I chose the latter. ;)

As for the hihats, it's just a standard hihat line for me. Nothing special. :P Glad you liked it, though.

Ah, finally someone likes the breakdown! Personally I think it's lacking diversitywise, but if you're not complaining, I won't. ;) Funny that you say it could be its own song - I remixed my own song with this, the old one being a bit less impressive - I made it back in April - though also being made up only of strings and piano. That's why I called this a trance remix! ;D The breakdown was based on the old song, which you can hear at http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/80127, if you want to - it isn't nearly as impressive, though. :P

As for the piano, yes - it sounds a bit thin and weak, but I didn't think it was THAT big of a problem. The "same room" idea is interesting, though, I should consider that when working with real instruments. Thanks for that. :D

Glad you liked my crashes and FX - I liked them a lot as well. :D Sadly, one of my hits - the short one, not the long windy one - is actually quite recognizable, though I did my best to change it - I altered the pitch, and even tweaked with the POGO knob in the Sample section... even though I have no idea what it really does. XD

I wouldn't call the strings and gated vox leads - I consider them filler, though in the beginning - especially the first half - they're anything but! ;D Basically, I didn't use them to play any melodies, but rather to make the song interesting, to fill the empty space, and to keep the song overall from sounding dull and empty. As for the lead, personally, I like it, and quite a few reviewers also did, or just didn't mention it - but you and a few others have mentioned that it's too loud, powerful, controlling, etc. I'm thinking it's a matter of opinion.

Glad you liked it, thanks for the high ratings, and thanks again for reviewing! :D As for the collab idea... well, send a PM my way, and we'll work something out. ;D

"i liked it"

date: February 28, 2008

i liked it but i thought i could change tones a bit more for how long it is like change up the main beat a bit but still really well done

Author's Response:

Hmm, a bit of variation with the drums could have worked, but it wasn't necessary in my opinion.

A second non-10 review! :O

Thanks anyway, glad you liked it! :P

"its deffenatly a trance remix heh."

date: July 14, 2008

Its rather enjoyable. has that cool flow to it. The beat and background bass at the beginning gives it a really cool feeling and as it goes it just progresses into something really cool! Great work!

"good"

I agree that the abrupt stop works well for that point in the song. abrupt stops aren't really much of my style though. overall I liked it though.

"not bad"

date: March 1, 2008

could use a bit more work on the transitions though. didnt really like the abrupt bass cutoff at 2:22, otherwise fully downloadable.

to rhenn : Please understand that trance and techno artists usually choose beats that are already used as a base for their new works. It does not mean that they stole it, it just means that the beat that was chosen is popular and works well. If that isn't the problem, you might want to go more in depth about your complaint.

March 1, 2008

Author's Response:

I thought the transitions were fine... sometimes you want them to be abrupt, sometimes you want them to be flowing. I couldn't really have faded out the bass at all, it was the last thing playing before the orchestral section and taking it out would have left the song virtually empty, save the wind FX which was by that point pretty quiet. ;) Thanks anyway for the suggestions. :)

Once again, no need to make a big deal out of it, though you're right - rhenn didn't go in depth at all. :P

Thanks for the review! :D

"Keep 0:00 - 2:00 and 3:45 - end"

date: June 23, 2008

I love the slap in the face you get at the beginning. I also love the build up at 3:45 to take it back to the main chorus (I don't if that is the right word)...

But, the middle is so slow to develop, and didn't seem to make sense with anything else... a snare drum in the middle lost me...

Great work... I just wish something else would have been done in the middle.

June 23, 2008

Author's Response:

Both parts are some of my favorites. :D Chorus works, I guess, I prefer to use "Peak," as this is a trance song - there's only one real melody and there are no lyrics in this one.

Yeah, I gave myself an easy time with the middle, otherwise I'd never have finished the song. Thanks anyway for the review. :)
