I wish I could compose something this amazing.
Good job. I loved the transition from semi-classical opening into trance

All I can say is, give it a shot, and keep at it - you won't be making stuff like this right away, but sooner or later you'll be making something awesome. ;D

Really interesting beginning here.
You start us out with a nice slow piano, then you slap us in the face with a mind blowing trance song!

I'm really loving your kick. I'm a HUGE fan of good kicks, and you've satisfied my kick tooth with this one.
The bass was pretty good as well. A little fatter wouldn't have been bad, but I think it's fine the way it is.
The high hat was really interesting as well. It's like nothing I've ever heard before. It's really interesting. I'm liking it.

You're break down of the song. MY GOD! I'm loving the slow parts of this song the most. I think they could have been a song on it's own. They're that good. The strings were perfect. The Rolling snares were a nice touch. The piano on the other hand seemed a little distant. It didn't seem to be in the same room as the strings and drums..you know what I'm saying? ;D
Your crashes were nice as well. Something I've hear before, but it adds the right amount of ambiance to the song.
Your FX are PERFECT in the parts you've used them. They really do the song justice.

Your leads are great. I'm loving them. You've got the gate going in the background to give the song body. It's loud enough so you can hear it, but soft enough not to over power the rest of the song.
The lead saw was a tad loud. If it were just a little softer I think it would have complimented the song nicely.

Amazing work. Keep it up!

PS: We should collab... maybe??? xD

Author's Response:

Hey, TMM43, thanks for stopping by to review! :D And yep - I've always wanted to introduce a song like this and with this one, I finally got the chance! >:)

I thought the kick was awesome too - we all have a "kick tooth," don't we? XD As for the bass, I chose a synth with very little going on in the low range, and then EQed it further, so I would have plenty of room for the boom of the kick - see, I like both a bassy bass synth and one like I used in this song, but it all depends on how they fit into the mix. For this song, the boom of the kick needed to be clearly audible, so I chose the latter. ;)

As for the hihats, it's just a standard hihat line for me. Nothing special. :P Glad you liked it, though.

Ah, finally someone likes the breakdown! Personally I think it's lacking diversitywise, but if you're not complaining, I won't. ;) Funny that you say it could be its own song - I remixed my own song with this, the old one being a bit less impressive - I made it back in April - though also being made up only of strings and piano. That's why I called this a trance remix! ;D The breakdown was based on the old song, which you can hear at http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/80127, if you want to - it isn't nearly as impressive, though. :P

As for the piano, yes - it sounds a bit thin and weak, but I didn't think it was THAT big of a problem. The "same room" idea is interesting, though, I should consider that when working with real instruments. Thanks for that. :D

Glad you liked my crashes and FX - I liked them a lot as well. :D Sadly, one of my hits - the short one, not the long windy one - is actually quite recognizable, though I did my best to change it - I altered the pitch, and even tweaked with the POGO knob in the Sample section... even though I have no idea what it really does. XD

I wouldn't call the strings and gated vox leads - I consider them filler, though in the beginning - especially the first half - they're anything but! ;D Basically, I didn't use them to play any melodies, but rather to make the song interesting, to fill the empty space, and to keep the song overall from sounding dull and empty. As for the lead, personally, I like it, and quite a few reviewers also did, or just didn't mention it - but you and a few others have mentioned that it's too loud, powerful, controlling, etc. I'm thinking it's a matter of opinion.

Glad you liked it, thanks for the high ratings, and thanks again for reviewing! :D As for the collab idea... well, send a PM my way, and we'll work something out. ;D

"Nice =)"

Excellent. The right length for a full trance song. On to the stuff.

The piano didn't really sound like trance, but when the bass came in it did. The transition at around 0:25 was TOO sudden. I just felt like you gave up on the intro and just went right on for the main theme.

The woosh was maybe a bit too loud, but it did not scare me ;). Good trance synth around 1:11. Made the feel even a bit better.

Bass had too much high EQ, maybe turn the bass up a little more? It would sounds more full if you did.

The snare at 2:55 was a wrong choice. IT just felt too video game-ish instead of trance. But hey, you can change it whatever you want ;)

Overall, great stuff. very uplifting. Can't wait for more! check out my stuff soon? thanks!

Glad you like it! :)

The transition was supposed to be sudden, but I never thought it TOO sudden - I thought it was fine. :\ It might be a taste thing, as nobody else has said that yet...

It's fine that the whoosh didn't scare you, it wasn't supposed to. :P I didn't introduce anything at 1:11, maybe you mean the vox synth starting around 1:06? I liked that one a bit too - see the response to A-New-Decade's review, which also gave it a mention.

Yeah, the bass isn't that "bassy" in this song - I EQed it like that to make room for the boom of the kick, which I wanted to be very audible. ;D

Not much to say about the snare - I used a similar one in the original so I thought I would use one in this part, the part that most resembles it. ;) If anything, it doesn't sound like a video game - I was going for the same thing that I had in the original. (Go to http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/80127 to hear it, though I doubt you'll like it nearly as much as this one. :P)

Once again, glad you liked it! :D I'll check out your stuff, maybe even review something if I have time, but no guarantees. ;) Thanks for the review!

"Crazy sounds!"

date: December 9, 2007

I liked the master piano you used there... that was good. The whishing techno after that was perfect. It scared me a little, but that was because I had my speakers up lol. I liked how you remixed it to. Remixes are hard to do, but you seemed to succed in it. It was a very good song overall, and I could dance to it. Nice. =)

December 9, 2007

Author's Response:

Ha! XD The whoosh into the drums and the bass shocked a few other people, too. :P This is my own song that I remixed, so it wasn't particularly hard to do. I'm working on another remix, though, of a song that ISN'T mine, and it's proving to be a LOT more difficult... :P

Thanks for the high ratings and the review, glad you liked it! :D

"Long song"

date: December 9, 2007

I am reviewing two long songs today! I'm screwing myself over for the exams. :)
So let the reviewing begin

Good
1) Nice emotion put into the classical piano (good thing you continued playing the piano when the song whooshed into the main beat)
2) Some good bass going on (just needs a bit more sub bass or something more darker)
3) That higher pitch instrument accompanying the bass sounds pretty cool (I have not heard that sound before in any NG song yet)
4) Oh what's this? A story going on. Now all like battle marching music.
5) I like your fx wind transitions
6) Good ending decrescendo and splash finish with the lil cymbal hits.
Fix?

2) That part at 2:26 I noticed the dissonance of the piano which is a bit weird
3) The blaring sound that comes in at 3:50 ish (crescendos in) may need some modifications. The simple blare sound didn't quite get my attention.
4) I was happy with the changes in beat occuring, but despite that, the song does feel too long. More diversity maybe....I suppose I'm not fond of trance cause it is always too repetitive unless it's a MS trance :)

So I will give you a 9/10. Bye for now.

Author's Response:

Hey, Music-story! Been a while since you reviewed my stuff... but no need to do so anyway if it's going to hurt your studies! Take your time next time, I can wait. :P As with before, I'll respond to the good and bad points, one at a time...

1) It's old composition but I'm glad to hear you think it's good. :D
2) I let the bass be less of a literal "bass" to make room for the booming kick in this song. Hey, it's still audible, right? ;D
3) I think you might be talking about the same synth, just when it's playing one octave up? XD I'm not sure, but there was no higher-pitched instrument "accompanying" the bass.
4) Well, not much to say, but it's under GOOD... :P Glad you liked that part.
5) I liked them too! :D
6) Yep, that's the sort of ending I've been into these days.

2) You must've had a number 1 that you changed your mind on, huh? :P The dissonance of the piano was supposed to be there, and I'm surprised that you're the only one so far that's pointed it out. Personally, I think it's fine - it adds to the lost, confused feeling.
3) The lead? I think it's fine, and, looking at the other reviews, it seems to be a matter people are split on. It's not like I'm going to make a second version of this song, though, I'm finished with it, and glad to be finished with it! :D
4) Read the other responses... I didn't kill myself over the diversity in this song. ;)

Thanks for the review! Glad you like it. :)
