Author's Response:
Hey, TMM43, thanks for stopping by to review! :D And yep - I've always wanted to introduce a song like this and with this one, I finally got the chance! >:)
I thought the kick was awesome too - we all have a "kick tooth," don't we? XD As for the bass, I chose a synth with very little going on in the low range, and then EQed it further, so I would have plenty of room for the boom of the kick - see, I like both a bassy bass synth and one like I used in this song, but it all depends on how they fit into the mix. For this song, the boom of the kick needed to be clearly audible, so I chose the latter. ;)
As for the hihats, it's just a standard hihat line for me. Nothing special. :P Glad you liked it, though.
Ah, finally someone likes the breakdown! Personally I think it's lacking diversitywise, but if you're not complaining, I won't. ;) Funny that you say it could be its own song - I remixed my own song with this, the old one being a bit less impressive - I made it back in April - though also being made up only of strings and piano. That's why I called this a trance remix! ;D The breakdown was based on the old song, which you can hear at http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/liste n/80127, if you want to - it isn't nearly as impressive, though. :P
As for the piano, yes - it sounds a bit thin and weak, but I didn't think it was THAT big of a problem. The "same room" idea is interesting, though, I should consider that when working with real instruments. Thanks for that. :D
Glad you liked my crashes and FX - I liked them a lot as well. :D Sadly, one of my hits - the short one, not the long windy one - is actually quite recognizable, though I did my best to change it - I altered the pitch, and even tweaked with the POGO knob in the Sample section... even though I have no idea what it really does. XD
I wouldn't call the strings and gated vox leads - I consider them filler, though in the beginning - especially the first half - they're anything but! ;D Basically, I didn't use them to play any melodies, but rather to make the song interesting, to fill the empty space, and to keep the song overall from sounding dull and empty. As for the lead, personally, I like it, and quite a few reviewers also did, or just didn't mention it - but you and a few others have mentioned that it's too loud, powerful, controlling, etc. I'm thinking it's a matter of opinion.
Glad you liked it, thanks for the high ratings, and thanks again for reviewing! :D As for the collab idea... well, send a PM my way, and we'll work something out. ;D
