Sweet!

I'm no musical expert but I do love this song! I'm actually making a game about a castle so I might use this!

Game music

This sounds exactly what you would find in a game.

MusicalRocky responds:

Awesome.

Too bad it's not in a game lol.

good vibe, flow, good melodic work

I've been listening to this piece for a while now, and I have to say it's quite awesome. Doesn't get tiring at all, though that loop end is an area of debate. It is good, but not flawless in my opinion. Maybe Newgrounds looping style makes me think so, but there you have it!

I felt the thumping at the end was a bit much, a little too much of teh beatings there. And I also feel there is some energetic joy in this piece, but only because the image in my head is not the castle being breached, but being taken back! And in a sense, being breached by being taken back. Can't take things without breaching something, like trust, or a life... or both.

A grand majestic song for sure, with some slick flow. I really do like what you did with the woodwinds and strings when you got the timpani going into full gear though.

All in all a slick composition, keep up the good fight and keep em coming!

MusicalRocky responds:

Hey, yeah, it really is a catchy song (I think), doesn't get tiring to my ears either. As for the loop, it's perfect on my computer...Ah, well.

Now the thumping...I'm guessing you mean when the song goes into a faster tempo and the timp is pounding on each beat? I didn't think that was too much. Anyways, I do get what you're saying about the castle being reclaimed. Indeed, indeed, not too dark of a piece.

The melodic work with triplets in the faster section was great fun, I assure you, glad you liked it.

Well, thanks for the nice review. Again, good lucks with the contest :D

Funny tune

this toon is very lively, and casual. i expected a castle breach as something a little less jolly, good overall melodies and harmonies, the costant quater note background theme kinda destroys the lively and dance theme of this song, it reinforces the breaching yet is completely different from the song's nature. majestic prhases tho, gotta love those.

MusicalRocky responds:

Hm, I don't quite see where you're getting jolly from this. Energized, yes, but certainly not happy. Maybe you were thinking a castle breach was just some pounding percussion? If so, you're looking at the wrong composer, man. I don't do anything like that. I really, really rely on melody.

The constant quarter beat tarnishes the theme? It boosts it, in my opinion. Trust me, I wrote the melody first, and after doing that, I decided I needed something alongside it. The celli and bassi and timpani provide some good movement for the piece, I think, encouraging the theme. I'm not too sure how you think the theme is a dance theme. It's a piece of blood-pumping charging into the castle-ness! Haha

I am glad you noticed my carefully composed phrasing though. I did do that intricately. :D

I'm not trying to bash you, or downright dismiss your opinions, but really, did I deserve a 6 for this? I think not, and I say that as humbly as I can. I poured an enormous amount of effort into this composition. It is a contest entry after all.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to review man.

My favorite :D

From all your submissions this is the one I like most! Very war like, marching and encouraging the soldiers to walk to victory and glory :O
I know I told you this already, but this one is damn catchy!
I like the intro very much, the way you used the trombone, cello, viola, bass like: "dotted8th- 16th-16th; dotted8th- 16th-16th..." is what makes me move my head&hands with the melody, fits perfectly to the melody.
0:19-0:37 is my favorite part. This is the part I'm talking about when I said it's like marching and encouraging the soldiers, like saying "This is what we're trained for everyone! Be ready! For this moment shall be ours forever! >:O"
0:56-1:08. Man! I really really love those triplets! This is the moment for truth, when the castle is finally breached and now the emotions flow with adrenaline as they yell and run to engage the enemy >:(
A very inspiring piece Rocky, very well done. :D
Your music is going better and better very quickly.
A well deserved five from me. Keep that up man!

Fuoco

MusicalRocky responds:

Hey! I'm glad this is your favorite, it's one of mine as well :D

Catchy, eh? Great, that's what I was going for. I also like the rhythm in the intro, and I'm glad you noticed it!

0:19-0:37...I'm guessing that's the flute solo? (I'm not listening to the song, so I can't be sure) If so, that was a really fun part to write. I like the imagery you got from it.

Aha that faster part with triplets, yes, they are upon the castle, gaining entrance. I can feel the adrenaline in here too :D

Thanks for reviewing, Fuoco, and thanks for the five! : )
