"Excellent"

Well, it first has the potential of some sort of Arabic style piece. But then, it transforms into something of electronic and classical mixed together. I haven't heard it done like this before. Quite different, really.

Later in the track, that strange, bendy pad with the flingy lead comes in to end the track. I can see a great story in this track, and I would tell it. But, most of the time people are not interested in stories, so I'll just leave a fact for this song: Different and well made.

Well, I don't believe you've done a piece quite like this before so this is a bit experimental, no?

Nice synths. Also, ending fadeouts are usually used when people can't find a way to end their piece. I myself do this sometimes but I don't like to use them so i'd try to avoid them.

I myself do some ethnic techno-classical stuff and an important thing to remember when doing this is to not get carried away with the trancey stuff and leave the classical element in the dust.

Also, don't let it overwhelm your story. Or in this case "scene". The piece did have some intensity but I still have alot of trouble associating it with the hanging of a man. Another reason not to do fadeouts~ they can easily ruin the imagery and I can't really see how it relates to the scene.

Overall though, this was quite good and i'm impressed that you tried something different! It was quite enjoyable! After the first fadeout, although a small change in the music I enjoyed it greatly.

5'd... and good luck with your future music if you stick with incorporating techno. I'm sure you will become great at it soon enough! Feel free to ask any advice and send along a PM to me and i'll do my best to help.

Author's Response:

As you said, i didn't made stuff like that before. I thought it was the right moment to try something new, because of the special case of the Hanged Man.

I agree that fadeouts are usually used when we got no idea of the way to end a song, and i'd lie if i say this isn't my case, but the Major Arcana is a special case. I imagine each one of the "characters" slowly leaving far away, and so does the music.

I understand you don't see how this piece blend with the hanging of a man. It's simply that this hanging isn't the "execution" stuff. The man is simply hanged by one his feet, which gives a more funny picture. As for proof, you should check this adress.

If it doesn't work, simply PM me, and i'll give you the link in a PM.

There is nothing impressive in trying something new, and it may surprise you, but the fact is, i dislike techno...no... i HATE techno. I just tried to put a techno beat, but that's it. I won't make techno for sure.

Thanks for all the advices. If i need help, i'll definatly PM you.

"A new twist on things?"

date: July 8, 2007

An interesting choice to add these electronic side effects. They sound like a preset from Fruity 6 (or 7 I guess, I wouldn't know I don't have 7 :P), I wouldn't say it's bad, but I didn't see it having a place in the song to be honest. It seemed like a noise in the background.

Is that a panned phaser effect i'm hearing on that super fast synth :D?! Gated no doubt.

The song didn't move around much Deflektor. It's not one of your better songs, the melodic line doesn't move around much, and I felt that the electronic spin didn't fully compliment the piece well.

The string support you threw in when the percussion and that synth sound efx kicked in really helped.

The piano you had playing during that same period also worked, however again I felt that "pcooowww" sound effect like thing didn't work out.

The second half was also pretty interesting. I see that you've tried a lot of new things with it, and though the feel is neat, again it doesn't move around much.

All in all, it was a neat track, not one of you best, but i'm glad to see you trying out new things. Keep up the good fight and keep em coming!

Author's Response:

What you think is a FL 6 or 7 preset is in fact a drumloop from FL 5, the drumloop called "deadmaus". It doesn't need any phaser, it already got some.

"The song didn't move around much Deflektor." True, true. As i tried other stuff, i also tried to make no theme. It means that each instruments is a theme itself. I already tried it once, but it was way too messed up. I thought i might try again in a less conventional way.

I tried even more new stuff on the second part, but i kept the original line.

I'm well aware this isn't my best work in the Major Arcana (altough i think the Strength is my worst). I'm pretty satisfied with it, yet. This is clearly not my best, but it gave interesting results, and i'm fine with that.

Thanks for the support, anyway!
Stay tuned for the next one, the Death!
