I composed this for the first Chips Day Compo, hosted by BlueOceans! The challenge was to use no "normal" minor chords, aka something like A minor would not be allowed, whereas A minor 7 would be. Additionally, at least 2 diminished chords were to be used :3

I recorded this on my synth, so it may have resulted in a slightly harsher sound (I did use a VST, but the MIDI was a bit more choppy). I hope you enjoy it!

Thank you for listening <3

do you see midnight suns in finland?
must be a nightmare to sleep.. or is it daymare..

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Hahha, we definitely do! In the summer, there are days in a row when the sun barely goes down at all. Most Finns are used to it, but foreigners can find it tricky to sleep. However, in the winter there are days when the sun barely comes up instead :p

have my babies

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Oh yes please!

There is something very lounge-y about it. A satisfying kind; you know I am a sucker for good chord progressions and you've done exactly that. It is singable too; I found myself actually almost singing the melody line that has appeared at least twice in this piece. I would happily listen to this toasting the summer goodbye -- it feels like a piece for the twilight in spite of its title.

Well done, Lucid. And just a final note on the sound quality, it didn't sound too choppy to me, or particularly harsh. It felt like a mellow-ish, beautiful thing that you'd play in the living room, which is probably one of my favourite sort of ambiences. So, no worries there. ^_-

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

I can kinda see what you mean with lounge-y, since it's a pretty rhythmic piece, with many "number" chords :)
Since the challenge revolved around chords, I figured it was right for me xD
I love playing around with unconventional progressions, while I try to make them sound nice. It's cool to hear that the composition is singable too!!

I'm glad it doesn't sound choppy. While I added a VST to the MIDI, I tried to soften the worst parts. Thanks for listening, as well as for your input! :D

Honestly, the more I listen to this piece, the more it impresses me— especially basically everything 1:07-1:30, which is just one wild compositional surprise party after another. I know I've said this already, but incredible work, and a well-deserved victory in composition. Usually piano pieces like these are frankly kind of dull to me, but this went so many interesting and satisfying harmonic places that I never lost interest.

GGWP, LSD! Please continue to be awesome!

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Aww, thank you!

After repeating the same melody (with variations), I thought I should come up with something new before the end part. I got lucky and just heard those silly modulations inside my mind and thought they fit in perfectly! Thus, I tried to find them on the keys, and I think it went well enough ^___^

It's not the first time I've been told by someone that they generally are bored by many piano pieces, but that they enjoyed mine! Conversely, others tell me that my tracks can be unstructured or too flowy/similar. I'm just happy to do my own thing, and even happier if you and others found them enjoyable!

Thanks a lot, and congrats to you as well, for the thrice in a row victory! :3

I'm always astonished by your ability to quickly create such gorgeous pieces of music. The composition is incredibly rich, and you used some delightful chords. I like the progression of the song's mood. It starts off bittersweet, and then it progresses into what I think is supposed to be a blissful-nostalgic mood, and then that sense of happiness recedes toward the end of the piece, but not totally. You pretty much nailed the theme. The only criticism I have is that the ending seems unpolished. This is a fantastic piece and one of my favorites of this compo.

yes, this is a copypaste from chipscompo :)

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thank you for the review and the nice words! I'm glad you liked the chords, and the progression of the piece. I think my style is very recognizable in this piece, since I made it in so short a time, inspired by the theme and some memories of my own. While I'm personally content with the ending, I understand why it can seem rushed :)

And yes, this is a copypaste from chipscompo ;)
