So, I wanted to start constructing my own language, mainly for literary and lyrical purposes. I translated Erin Hanson's poem, 'Wings' into my own language, which for now, let's just call Jordian. Wanted to experiment with some autotune too at the end, which was fun!

Lyrics:

Ela venitana enam barana fora
Mirana asi na la sora
Kiraka por la tsubana
Are to eyo ela i vuna

Ela'ni ansay dora la tera aki
Pen vinay i la teri
La vimana no gravija
Konta tyonta ela aja

I la tera ela'ni o pesa
I o pesa, la tera
Ela velana i esta o anya
De ela'ni nomi o nina

Y quai ela'ni vitana marioneta
Ela'wa pera toyo la filana
De por nyt ela'ni nomi yumiya
No emayama ela tsubana

Translation:

She stretches her arms out
Stares up at the sky
Wishing for the wings
That could teach her to fly

She's trapped on the earth here
Feet tied to the ground
The forces of gravity
Keep pushing her down

To the world she's one person
To one person, the world
She wants to be an angel
But she's only a girl

And though she's life's puppet
She'll break all the strings
But for now she's just dreaming
Of earning her wings

I love the instrumentation right off the bat...it seems reminiscent of celtic music. The pace is a little slow, but the relative minimalism and space in the mix really allows the nuances of the vocals to come through. The lyrics are beautiful, and I’m exceeding impressed and curious that you invented your own language for the piece. There’s a lot of soul in this piece. I especially like the floaty part at around 3:45. The autotune work in there is quite amusing. If I had to complain about something, it might be that you could’ve filled in the texture a bit more. Percussion strikes me as a particular area you didn’t capitalize on. The instrumentation also rarely changes throughout the piece, but it’s still absolutely gorgeous. Your voice has an easy, light quality that really makes this piece what it is. Keep it up, Jordi!

Wonderful initiative and wonderful results! I can't stop listening to it! For the language, let's just name it "Teoran", because I watch Gwain Saga way too much!

etherealwinds responds:

haha name it whatever you like! I don't think I'm gonna stick with the name Jordian, but if I use it for some more songs, I'll have to think of something better ;)
