This was my entry for the NGCHIPS I Compo.

NG thread: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1422892

Website: http://www.chipscompo.com/

The theme was "Abandoned World", and I was inspired by one of the artworks that johnfn recommended:

http://gematsu.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Nier-Art_09-02-15.jpg

I didn't have much time to create something for the contest, so I just improvised on my keyboard, fixed a few notes, and called it a day. I also just threw the MIDI on a preset, so I'm aware it sounds very filtered!

Either way, I hope those of you who have yet to hear it, enjoy ^___^

In other news, I'm sorry to self promote, but you know :p
Jordi (Etherealwinds) and I just uploaded a collaboration on YouTube. But since Newgrounds can't allow covers anymore, we couldn't upload it here. If you feel like it, please do check it out :D

And, if you're feeling generous (or really bored, I suppose), I uploaded an alternate version with a more "music box-esque" feel to my channel:

Phew, that was it, haha.
I hope you're having an absolutely fantastic day :3
(And if not, I hope you'll have one in the near future).

It’s impossible to listen to your music with a straight face! :3 What you’re able to do with pianos never ceases to astound me. To be honest, I just realized that I love your improvs most of all your wonderful work.^^ However, I did not imagine an abandoned world while listening to this (Imagined peaceful woodland creatures instead, because I’m terribly cheesy like that :P)

It's fine for you to imagine whatever you want, that's part of the reason why music is so great! Maybe it's a peaceful woodland abandones by all but nature and animals ;)

I'm glad you like my improvs, as they are something I've been working on improving especially these past two years or so. Thank you for all the support! I hope you're doing well :3

Lovely composition, I enjoy your mastery over the piano. Was that recorded live or via software? the low keys are pretty heavy on my bass.

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

I recorded the MIDI on my keyboard (I just played once), then I moved it over to my computer and slapped a piano preset on the MIDI, essentially xD
It's a preset that might be a bit too muddy for this song :D
Thanks for the review!

only few tracks i voted full scores (everything). you captured the feel right on man. it's beautiful and sweet, yet so desolated in some way. like the blow of wind in the dark. gentle but lonely. how the heck did you play the piano so gently? :O this is amazing in its own way man. just great!

im glad your track is real good here! :)

Aww, thank you for the pretty review :'3
I wanted to capture what I felt in the artpiece that was suggested for inspiration, for the contest. I was really taken by how incredibly beautiful it was, in its loneliness. I improvised this during the night, when my dad was sleeping. Ofc, I wore headphones, but I wanted to play the keys gently most of the time, as to not disturb him. I still played a bit louder on the more dynamic parts though.
I'm glad to hear you like it! :D

I wont go into too many details, you know the same message from me as usual. "It's mazing". It's great :)

As i already told you in CHIPS, this is beautiful. Hope I one day will be able to make an entire piano composition as beautiful sounding as this :)

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Oh, you certainly can! You have a great sense of melody, after all. Naturally, it's easier for me to get a dynamic sound since I actually play like all of my piano tracks. But you can do it in a DAW too, SoundChris is proof of that!
Thanks for reviewing/listening to it again!
