I like the smooth guitar at the beginning. The chord progression at the beginning is also rather interesting. The drums at :23 are nice and crisp, although the piece is a little slow to progress. I didn’t think the intro needed to be so long - 30 seconds is much more appropriate than 90. The melody that comes in at 1:27 is enjoyable, and the dynamics are really interesting. You clearly have a good sense of harmony, but I think the piece was pretty minimalistic throughout. It could use some vocals or horns or something to add to the texture more. The melodies also get a little repetitive after a while. Again, the pacing of the piece is pretty slow at times. I also would’ve liked to hear a little more structural variety here. For long sections of the piece, there’s very little in the way of changes in energy levels, phrasing, or shape. It sounds a bit like background music at an ethnic restaurant more so than a stand-alone piece, and that’s a problem. If your melodies weren’t so robotic and repetitive, I think the composition would be a lot stronger here. As for now, it’s still a pretty enjoyable piece. Keep at it, TheJiJo. :)
