"Madness"

by: popraz
date: April 26, 2009

Loved this song, as much as you can love any song that portrays madness so convincingly. The instrumentation is simply great, all the menacing undertones and the seemingly chaotic progressions blend very well. Nice use of bass. I loved how it rises like a storm, then apparently slows down, then burst out again. Also, a great touch doing it in a waltz rythm ( it sometimes sounds like the battle scenes from Gladiator). All in all, very sinister. Wonderfull mad work.

"Makes for a great soundtrack"

date: January 12, 2007

I really enjoyed this. I'm scouting for music for a flash production I'm working on and I could see the scene unfold in my mind as your music played. I love how it begins and how it remains ominous as it goes along. I may use this in the production, though it's a pretty big production, you may have to wait a while before you see it...but I'm pretty sure you will.

Author's Response:

Great! Go ahead! I'm awaiting your production and I'm really cuorious how will you use this music to support the scene you imagined. I'm glad you liked this one. Thanks for the review!

"Interesting"

date: November 2, 2006

This is not my kind of music at all, but since your currently my top composer of Newgrounds, I thought I would drop by and rate :P And it must be said that you disappointed me quite a bit. Here I was, hoping for the next great classical Lord of the Ringish track, and you come with this :(

Not that its bad, but as I said, really not my style. But ofcourse, you're the composer lord, not me.

Author's Response:

Wow... top composer for you?! Well what is that if not an honor for me.

I'm sorry that I havent fulfilled your style. I like epic orchestral sounds (and more Hans Zimmer-like than LOTR sound) than this kind of tracks - but I think challangeing myself in different styles will bring more experience that will add some more to the epic tracks that I'll create in the future.

I cant say any concrete date but I'm working on another epic - well rather heroic like track. If you have patience you will see altough in this case I've combined the classical sound with some electronics. Hope you'll like that.

Thanks for the review and the ponts anyhow!

"Schweet...."

date: November 1, 2006

Wow, now here's a song that is literally bordering on chaos and disorder!

This is LITERALLY waltzing with madness... which makes my waltzing with madness as MaestroSorrow look like barbie's playhouse in comparison :'(

As mentioned it's not easy listening, but it is definately an entertaining listening. How did you reverse the string sounds?! Did you export a melody knowing what it would sound like backwards and then import as wav and reverse?! In either case, very well done.

The sound effects really helped drive that image of madness. I kept seeing swirling colors of so much anger, so much chaos, all inside the fragile, always smiling frame of the insane.

There are some parts in this song which I felt were a tad too chaotic, and by that I don't mean melody or flow wise, but I mean volume wise, it tends to jump up and down too much, I realize what you are trying to drive home, and in essence the theory is correct, doing what you did is in fact the best way to do it, but overall it made the song much harder to listen to. There was some distortion, especially near the end, but wow, what a ending!

It loops pretty damn good too, didn't realize until that high high pitched synth came in (that synth was a tad too loud btw).

I am very very interested in how you managed to build this song, please, if you could tell me that would be great!

This song gets a 5/5 from me madboss, not for the listenability for the song, but for the message, the structure, and overall the impact.

Author's Response:

Well well - thank you for the review! I'm glad you liked it I was afraid that I made the whole stuff too chaotic and it's not enjoyable at all. I'll be honest: I didn't know that you had a track with the same title... but after this I'll definitely listen to it.

You mentioned reverse string sounds... well I'm a bit puzzled because there arent any of them. I'm listening the track right now but I don't know what part was that caught your attetion. If you was thinking about the first and the very last part these were short solo-violin tunes that were put together. If you are mentioning the part between 1:54 - 2:41 I can tell you the same. I've created a melody that sounds like this.

About the too hard volume rises - yes I must agree that I was a bit to flamed on the theme. I wanted to make something reeeally booming - and that's why the end was a bit loud and made a distortion. Again problems shooting the right volume level...

And yeah it loops really good altough I didn't make that so to make it loopable. And about the synth - it's not a synth.:) It's a reversed and distorted sweep-hihat and I plaied with it's volume control switching it down and up like a maniac.

Thanks again for your review and your attention! I'm happy that I've reached the effect with this song that I've planned!
