Very elastic!

This is an NGADM 2015 Review.

So this song is pretty unique, at least in comparison to the other entries in the contest. I almost want to give you a ton of points simply for that fact, as it definitely stands out and despite some interesting production decisions, it sounds really good! It’s snappy and clean, great production in general; the vocal processing is really quite good and melodically it’s an enjoyable experience. Your general structure is great as well, you balance the song well between chorus and breakdown.

Some potential negative points were partially that I felt the vocals might have needed more reverb, especially later into the song. There are parts (like around 1:21) where they sound absolutely fine, but others where they sound a little dry to me. i can understand not wanting to hurt their clarity, though. The lyrics might also be a little repetitive for how few there are, and there are some points in which I felt the highs may have been a little harsh. Speaking of highs, I felt the song was a little spectrally imbalanced, possibly lacking mids a little. I didn’t analyze it though, so I could be off about that. It does feel pretty top-heavy, though Other than that, there aren’t really any flaws worth mentioning.

Moving onto more positive aspects, I find the high-mids on your kick to be amazing. They’re so brutally clean, and it’s really nice to listen to. The entire song is extremely clean. Very transparent mastering.

NGADM Review:

Your sound quality is always really solid man. Production can't be beat really. The structure and composition compliment the overarching story of this track to convey an emotional message. The only thing I'd really say is that the melodies themselves feel very uninspired. This is partially in the chord progressions as well. That's really all I have to comment on. The vocals are really neat as are the synth choices. Good job man, and good luck in finals.

This is certainly quite a departure from the kind of music you've submitted so far. Despite this new, decidedly more kawaii approach, there's still a lot of the stuff that bore such sky-high scores from me in the past, such as the clear, punchy production value, fantastic choice of synths, and highly melodic content. You've got some neat vocals, a solid structure, fantastic mixing, and excellent sound design. It's really solid stuff.

My main issue is that this isn't quite as novel as I would've hoped it to be. The main melody can get a bit crass and obnoxious, and there wasn't really enough variety and novelty to make this live up to your previous submissions. I was personally really happy to hear that trademark synth solo of yours, since it was a brief respite from the cheesy pop stuff, and was more akin to your previous work. Not that I didn't enjoy the rest of the song, but I think a lot of the "wow factor" of this track comes from that solo haha.

Anyway, still an awesome submission. Good luck in the finals!

Hrmm. This posed quite the conundrum for me. On one hand...
Well... It sounds good but… weird? I admit, I didn't like the style, that I found the "solo" part a little uninspired too. The chords didn't do much for me, the way their attack is quite short makes it feel repetitive even if they're not.

On the other hand, objectively, I can appreciate the sound and quality of the work. It is mostly well put together, the mix is full and good compared to most of what you hear on Newgrounds. The somewhat vocaloid/Asian pop style was an unexpected direction and kept it fresh for sure.
