Easy Listening - Jazz

Sooo... Just finished this piece for the NGAUC knock out round. I feel like it´s not the perfect contest piece since it´s very... special... But this time I´ll stick to my idea.
The second part is very very slow. So I recommend you to take some relaxed time to listen to it. It´s meant to slow down a bit from the everyday life.

I wanted to do some jazzy noir stuff inspired by Miles Davis Soundtrack to Ascenseur pour l'échafaud and by the works Angelo Badalamenti. This is what came out (a bit less of these two guys I guess ;). The first part is not really jazz but it has some jazzy elements and it´s more like a cinematic tension buildup.
The second part after the climax is a very slow calm jazz blues and I recommend to take some relaxed position while listening. Actually, I have a story in mind for this track but I will keep it for me since someone who listened to this track came up with a nice story to tis one and so I´ll leave everybody to his own fantasy...
My first idea was to extend this piece with another even slower part but I already heard from people that the slow part is already quite long. Maybe I did a mistake here in bringing the climax so early and slowing down so badly afterwards. I also played with the thought to swap the two parts but that wasn´t consistent with my idea. So at the end it became an experiment. Let´s see.
The slow part was actually a bit inspired by Bohren & Der Club of Gore which are supposed to be the slowest band on earth as far as I know ;)

The artwork I used is from TheShadling.

I like the mysterious mood at the beginning. The sound design is rather good. The transition at 1:14 offers some valuable structural contrast. The tranquil mood and production are good, but the ending could've been more conclusive IMO. It progresses extremely slowly for most of the piece, and there aren't a lot of structural changes after around 1:25, giving the track sort of a bizarre pacing pattern. Overall, I think you could've done a lot more with this piece. It's low key and at times even minimalistic, and the only time you do anything even remotely risky or attention-grabbing is around :25 - 1:10. I think you even mentioned this in the description. I liked how you started doing more with the drums at around 2:35, yet, again, I think you needed some more engaging content to make this more of a stand-out piece. Otherwise, the atmosphere is probably the best thing about this piece (which is fine, but I still wanted to see some more melodic development, climaxes, transitions, etc.). Overall, it's definitely good for relaxing to, and perhaps I could even see it in the background of some sort of movie, but as a stand-alone piece I think it needs more engaging content. Hope this helped, and keep up the good work, Azhthar! ;)

Hey! Thanks a lot for the detailed input. Your points of critique are actually nothing unexpected ;) I knew that it´s a bit tough as a standalone piece but I wanted to stick to the idea I had instead of rolling everything over in the last minute. Also time was a bit of a problem... Anyway, the contest was fun and I´m excited to hear the tracks for the last round ;)
