Meeeeh...

In some 50 minutes when I had nothing better to do yesterday, I made this. For no reason.
I didn't really mix it or anything (just mostly unedited presets), and it is in dire need of a bass and percussion (and it is far to short). As I won't ever return to it probably, I'll just upload it as it is.

I'm thinking of trying to make some electronic stuffz when I return from the army though; that could be a fun project. Electronic intruments tend to be much cheaper too...

I'll probably upload a better song tonight, or tomorrow ;)

PLEASE make more electronic music! This is beautiful, and with a little more practice (mastering the synths better, like taintedlogic suggested), you could produce something fantastic!

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

I WILL, for sure ;)
I think I'll get time for such projects as soon as the year of 2015 starts. I've had to put a lot of projects and working with music in general on a hiatus for a while, but I'll finally get some free time to do what I want in my very near future :D

I intend to practice indeed, so wish me luck ;)

Very emotional and atmospheric. Sounds like some sort of trance to me. The synths at :25 got a little high-pitched and harsh-sounding, but I like the melody itself a lot. I think you could do a lot more with this, Ale. In fact, this part might function as a sort of breakdown or bridge for a full-length piece. As it is now, it doesn't make that bad of a loop though. Interesting stuff. Have you ever made a full-length electronic piece, though? XD Keep up the good work!

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

It does kind of sound like some kind of trance, now that you mention it o.O

I understand your point about the synths at 0:25. I just used the first best presets I could find to make a quick experiment, so there's a lot to criticise here XD
The melody was really what I was practicing, as you can easily make a good melody in electronic pieces (which I wanted to prove to myself).

I haven't made a full-lenght electronic piece! That is one of the things I intend to do once I get home again :3

Thanks!

Woah!

So Cool! I can hear the bass and percussion already. You should totally run with this.

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thanks Spadezer!!!

I don't think I'll return to this, but once I get some time I will make an even cooler electronic song for sure (with bass and percussion too XD) ;)

These melodies are awesome! :D

I've always loved melodies that jump around a lot, and this one has some very, very beautiful ones. The first synth that came in had a really smooth sound (and when paired with the second synth, sounded amazing as well), and that chromatic exit made me laugh. :P

Your second synth sounded nice, but I think it might fit your style better if it was a bit smoother. I wish I could offer a better suggestion, but I'm not entirely sure what the terminology is and don't want to screw you over. :P Less pulse-y, I guess?

You should do more electronic stuff! You've got melodic composition down pat, so once you improve your instrumentation a bit (drums, synths, etc), your music could become even more awesome than it already is.

Great song!

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thanks! :D

I like melodies that jump around too :p
I once again wasn't even intending on making anything this weekend, but a sudden thought struck me. I was thinking of the kind of music that is popular in the clubs these days, with all the drops and catchy leads and such, and figured I'd probably be able to make something as good or better if I really wanted to (not with this song, but in general o.O). I mean... Four simple chords and a melody + some production? = Simple :p

Thus, I used one of the most common chord progressions ever XD
I think electronic music is a great thing for me to practice as well, as it'd increase my skills in the three fields of composing I need to improve the most; percussion, instrumentation, and mixing :D
Melodies and chords I think I have a pretty good grip on...

The thing about that chromatic exit for that lead though, is that it's not actually chromatic :p It's just so fast that it kinda sounds like it is :3
It's cust a simple descending C chord with an added D (Cadd9, basically).

You might be right about that second synth. I just used the first, best preset I found in the alchemy player VSTi :) (This whole track consists of presets from that VST plugin...)

Thanks for the review :'D!

It's a cool idea. It reminds me a lot of the lovely Aquaria soundtrack! http://infiniteammo.bandcamp.com/album/aquaria-original-soundtrack

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Holy crap o.O
I can definitely see the resemblance; thanks for showing me that! The first song even has the same chord progression, if I'm not mistaken :D
