I've been producing a lot of breaks and hip hop this last week for a comedy rap act called Drive-Bys & High.

It's been a week of pure production so I decided to take that energy back to the Pomp stuff today and made this.

Been listing to a lot of Bonobo and Space Dimension Controller recently, not sure if any of that comes across in this. Pretty happy with the Tycho vibe synth preset I made in Serum.

So yeah, free download, If you like it, have it.

I guess I'll drop some more info about the track and my set up for it:

DAW: FL Studio

VST: SERUM, Massive, Reaktor, Maschine, iZotope, Fab Saturn, Solid Bus Comp.

I can't stress enough how good SERUM actually is, if you have £80 going spare or the US equivalent It's 100% worth it. Having so much fun with it at the moment and if you're not into drawing in your own waveforms there's a ridiculous amount already out there for free download. It's the most creative synth I've worked with, it really does give new meaning to 'automation.'

Lovely vibes. Really enjoyed this track - absolutely hearing the bonobo and tycho influence, maybe a little four tet too? Only gripe is that the synth lead melody was too buried in the mix (too much compression for my taste), i would have liked it to really pop out and be the focal point of the track. In any case very happy to stumble across this one. well done!

PompYin responds:

Cheers NiCK, I still feel that mixing is one of my weaker points when it comes to production, I've had a tendency in the past just to go mad with the amount of sounds I'm using to keep things interesting inadvertently making 'swamp music' (Just a muddy mess really.)

Other than panning, eqing and compression are there any techniques you've learnt that have made a big difference to your mix downs?

Just listened to Stalagmite and it fills out really nice, really clear sounds, nothing clashing at all.
