Hey there,

here is a Troll Boss Battle soundtrack i have started to work on some time ago. I am going to make a song out of this - first it was meant to become a loop but i changed my mind. Dont know when i will have completed it - probably not too soon... I really would love to hear your opinion about the track so far and also possible suggestions to make this a strong piece in the end :D

Hope you will enjoy it - even it is stil a work in progress.

Honest reviews and votes are always highly appreciated!

You have to finish this! Seriously! Not only is it greatly badass for a boss battle, but for a scene in which there's a scary guy or monster that's chasing someone. For me it gave me the feeling that there's someone who's literally running for his or her life. I really like the intro and how wild the strings and brass are. :D

There's so much energy and intensity into this cinematic track. It's really great so far, and I know you can do more here!

Thanks a lot! I will continue working on it. The situation this has been composed for was a troll boss battle. People are running away and cry. The village is on fire and you face the troll, a giant creature with a huge club who just in this moment crushes a house, turns to you and attacks. He is huge, raw and brutal, but a little bit unwieldy so i decided to go for percussion and brass. directly after that scene you face the real villiant of the game who is a allmighty dark wizard that rules over all the elements. Its like you encounter death in person. You can hear what came out in my track "Cale Unleashed" which is more zimmer like with a focus on aleatoric orchestral effects and a horror athmosphere.

Thanks for leaving your thoughts here ;D

Awesome boss battle! What is that crazy instrument you hear at 00:22 is that a vocal? I love it!
Nice work Chris :)

Thanks man! The instrument is a patch from the CAGE Brass (if i remember correctly it were the french horns) and the articulation is called tongue flutter - sounds quite funny and really reminds of a vocal thing :D Glad you enjoyed it good sir!

I have no tips to give you, except for believe in your own talent and make this longer!
I can find no flaws thus far, so I'm sure you'll be able to continue composing this track with relative ease XD
The epic feel of this piece is quite unbelievable, with all the hectic brass, strings, and especially percussion.

I'm a huge fan of the sound you use at 0:22, 0:29, 1:00 and 1:07.
There are some other noises here and there that you've managed to fit in really well.

You said you owe me some reviews, but alas, I've made nothing worthwhile lately, so there's nothing for you to review. Don't worry about it; I'm reviewing your music because it's so amazing ;) You don't owe me anything :p
I'll make sure to tell you if I ever am in need of a review though!

Thanks a lot! The sounds you liked that much were articulations from 8dio cage brass - very strong library IMO.

Oh yes i will review more of your tracks in the future - once my situation is getting a little bit less busy. Right now i started my audio studies and have to drive 4 times / week to munich (300 km / day) which is quite exhausting me. Also i am looking for a flat there to make things easier, but munich is the worst city in germany to find an affordable place... also i will start to work soon and have also to prepare for this. AND: There is the NGADM quarter finals where we have to work very hard this round since we meet PeterSatera - exciting!

But really if you ever wanted my help / advise / talk / review or whatever feel free to contact me and i will do what i can :D

Thanks a lot and best wishes,

My right ear is sad that my left ear isn't hearing the low strings riff that you have going on. Definitely a sweet boss battle theme though. It seems like there's a lot of percussion impacts. It's good for like the first 00:45 of the song, but after a while I feel like my ears are trying to fight the troll directly. It's a lot of volume that doesn't seem to calm down soon enough IMO. It's pretty sweet though once I get past those issues.

Be awesome, be more awesome, and repeat.

SoundChris responds:

Hey man! Thanks for leaving your thoughts here :D Hm yeah its right that the low strings are panned to the right which is usually the realistic orchestral position in the stereo field. Its hard to find the right place so the right side is not overpowered - i guess i have to train this even more - even i tried to pan it carefully here, but maybe it stil didnt work well - i will check that good sir! Yeah there is no quite passage in here but that was because the boss is not that strong - its the first final bos in the game - and the fight does not endure longer than 1 minute. I will make the song version more versatile and also want to bring in a wider dynamic variety.

Thanks a lot for your useful review mate and all the best!

This is some high quality Boss Music. Dynamic and intense and intimidating and damn awesome. The rhythmic lower string parts have the soothing qualities of a great metal riff, hah. Very menacing.

Great work!
