Tea Leaf Melancholy
by Krichotomy

I woke up this morning with this melody playing through my head. It's probably based off of a combination of Russell Cox's "To Zanarkand" remix and Crest's arrangement of ZUN's "Alice in Wonderland".

Why tea leaf? Because I was reading about different types of tea yesterday, and that is the first thing that I associated this music to.

Nice melancholic track. I love the musicbox! It was surprising (but in a good way) when the other instruments started. The track gets a bit different feeling here. More like in a dreamy fantasy world. Would fit nicely into an old japanese roleplaying game I guess. But I also understand the comment from MeisterMach5 because at the beginning of the track it´s hard to concentrate on the melody above the arpeggios. Maybe try to reduce the volume of the accompaniment during the musicbox part a bit and the melody will get a bit more presence. Anyway... Great job here!

Krichotomy responds:

I didn't consider reducing the volume of some of the music box notes because I think every music box I've heard had no variation of note volumes, and I wanted to imitate that. But I probably shouldn't constrain my music to that.

Thanks for the review, I'm glad you enjoyed the track!

This was frightening at first... I felt like I was lost and couldn't find my way. But then as time went on, it became more and more hopeful, and I found what I was looking for. Excellent choice of instruments, and the pacing is quite magical. But for some reason this song felt really nostalgic to me, and I couldn't figure out why for several minutes as I sat here staring at this sentence. I realized that this song reminds me SO MUCH of Chrono Trigger. I feel it would fit absolutely perfectly in that game. Everything is just right for it.

Krichotomy responds:

I'm glad you "found what you were looking for", and I hope the looping nature of this piece didn't make you lost over and over again. :P Perhaps it reminds you of Chrono Trigger because this piece is partly based on a piece (To Zanarkand) composed by a guy (Nobuo Uematsu) who contributed to the Chrono Trigger soundtrack. I appreciate your compliments.

Sounds awesome. It reminds me of the soundtrack from a game I used to play years ago. It has a huge library of extremely moving music, the spirit of which you captured here. It makes me feel all luke-warm and bitter-sweet inside.

My only qualm is that i think the reverb, especially on the bells needs a bit more dampening.

Krichotomy responds:

I'm happy that it could evoke those feelings.

I agree about the reverb, and I also realize now that I applied too much limiting.

Sounds good. A very haunting theme as if one became trapped in a video game.

Downloaded.

Krichotomy responds:

Can't stop thinking about SAO, huh? :P

I'm glad you enjoy this piece.

Sounds great!

Krichotomy responds:

Thanks.
