I'm really happy with this one. The first half is more ambient than cinematic, but I feel like the song as a whole would be used in a cinematic setting. The concept is pretty simple, but hopefully powerful at the same time. The tone is meant to be a bit mysterious at first and then it gets dark and almost hopeless. If I had to put a visual to it I'd say it would fit in with some of the darker Demon's Souls/Dark Souls levels. I wasn't too happy with the latter half of my last song. I wanted to give this one a lot of depth and layers but at the same time realize that... sometimes, less really is more. Let me know what you think of it!

EDIT - Tweaked it a little bit. Changed up the middle transition, messed with the volume/EQ, and added a new ending.

I smell Nexus, Nexus is fine. I love the piano, and the medieval ring that it has when the guitar and strings come in. It reminds me of a field in the night during the cinematic parts, and maybe a barren alien world during the ambient parts.

In all, I can't say that I didn't enjoy it. Good work.

NEXUUUUS! NEXUS EVERYWHERE! I don't always make music, but when I do, I choose Nexus.

Haha, glad you enjoyed it!

My only complaint is that it ended.

Chemiqals responds:

Not a bad problem to have! Haha, thanks! =)

I will definitely use this as inspiration next time I dabble in dark, ambient stuff. Loved the beginning. Only thing that I wasn’t sure about was that arppegiated synth in the distance as it was a little too familiar, but I did like the choice in using it in this context.

Glad you enjoyed it! ^_^

Minute 0.00-2.00:
Great athmosphere. Somehow it reminds me of singing whales in the deep - everything is sounding quite hollow and interesting. Great sounddesign. Also the descrete use of synths for the melody worked very well.

Minute 2.00-4.50
Hm - in my opinion the break in athmosphere was to extreme - it ripped me out of the underwater - mood quite hard. Also it is a little bit repetitive here. I would vary the musical part here and invent a low volume introduction which leads out of the "underwater" part very smoothly. In the beginning of the new part i would let the synth ambiences stil dominate the scenery. While it could be reduced more and more the instrumental part could increase its presence and finally be focused. For the instruments here. I would recommend:
- add more reverb to the piano and use softer velocities
- work with the expression CC for the cello. This will make it much more vivid
- in this part the upper frequencies are quite empty. Maybe you stil could ad some thing here - a low volume high synth ambient with clackles and stuff - dont know. Maybe bowed glasses...

Afte a climax i would come back to the underwater ambience to close the circle in the end.

Overall a creative piece. The first part - in my ears - is flawless. Maybe you could make the 2 parts harmonize better with each other and adjust a few little things.

Good job. Keep it up!
