I think my music is getting a little samey so I decided to do away with typical johnfn-isms and cliches like "chord progressions" and "melodies"

---

pretty fun to write though i have to admit i had no idea what i was doing.

(also i made all those sounds myself... though they aren't really too mind blowing ha!)

Some nice rythem on this one

A very notable piece here This one caught my attention mainley because you can really lay down some tune I was impressed with this whole piece right from the start as it was intense and progressed very well, you always bring in some stronge tunes, I have here a decent piece with some nice little extras some nice rhythm at its finest Now here was a good track, its always a pleasure to review your work old and new

~X~

I really love the subtle sounds you put in this song! It may not have a complex melody but the progression is really damn nice!

Great jobs on the drums, and the filter around the mid point is awesome!

The name works great and I could totally see this in a video game. If you've played Factorio or FTL I could see it in both of those games!

johnfn responds:

Thank you! I haven't played those games, but I guess I should check them out :)

Who needs melody when you have ARPS???

I love the synths and the apprehensive mood and how the instruments swell constantly. The atmospheric synth at :28 is especially cool, and I also like the percussion at :41. That beat is awesome - it makes the piece really climactic. The filtering at 1:35 is also rather well done. The clave at 2:32 was a nice touch. That snare has a really interesting almost squeaking-sounding effect to it. It's very original and creative! Brings me back to the days of "Substructure" and "Inside the Machine." You should have no idea what you're doing more often. ;)

johnfn responds:

Thanks! The thing at 2:32 is actually a wood block :D My knowledge of perc instruments is really limited, I just wanted something high pitched.

Lots of notes = substructure :D But yeah I was thinking the same thing, it's kinda neat that you've listened to me for so long that you can refer to pieces a year old!

What's this? 3 votes and 2.27 stars o.O
At least I got it a little higher -_-

I personally suck at making music without clear chord progressions or melodies (usually at least). You on the other hand, did a great job!
Even though frum month was last month, I like the percussion in this piece. Did you make the percussion yourself too? :p
All the sounds sound fine to me :)
The sound that made the song is naturally the one that entered at 0:25 :3 It is simply pleasing to listen to. The volume balance is also good. I like the breakdown around the halfwaypoint of the song too, which also ties the song together with the intro. This song is really well mixed too. Everything seems to appear at the right position, at the right time and the piece thus has very good dynamics XD

I don't really have anything to complain about. Even the ending seems good :D
(Maybe you could have faded out that low tone though?)

Godod job!

johnfn responds:

Haha yeah I don't really pay attention to scores any more, I don't think they provide much valuable information unless you have like a hundred votes (and that doesn't really happen).

Yeah I did all the percussion by hand, except I was a little lazy with the bongo like noises heh. EVERY MONTH IS DRUM MONTH :D

I'm glad you liked it :)

Exclusive and Impressive. I luv it.

johnfn responds:

Exclusive! Exclusive to Newgrounds, perhaps? But I put it on soundcloud too... oh well xD
