Audio Inspired Music Review

I think this piece certainly is quite fitting to the art that it accompanies. I like the mixture of genres, and your addition of blues certainly fits the image well. The vox samples are nice and fitting too. A few of the transitions feel kind of rough, like the one at 1:26.
Overall a good piece and well fitting. :)

Aaah thank you so much for the lovely review. :D
Glad you liked my song. <3

Great work! It fits the artwork nicely and it sounds tight and well produced. Particularly like the part that starts at 0:53.

YouriX responds:

Heej! Thanks bro. I also like that part xD

Nice piece! I really think the feel fits nicely with the urban vibe of the art piece, but I think there are a few things with the piece that just don't quite sell it to me.

First, the transitions might need some work. You jump back and forth between these parts abruptly (notably at 1:26) and it is kinda disorienting. As a listener, I don't really know what is going on sometimes in the piece. The composition of the piece is pretty nice, there are some nice chords and catchy licks, but it's important that it all fits together as one homogenous mix to be a piece. I do think you could do more with the complexity of the melodies and harmonies though, maybe consider some ornamentation and so on.

Second, the mix isn't very full. The repetitive piano licks are really all the listener has to munch on aside form drums for most of the piece. I wish you had added more kicks and stabs in there on some horns, some pads, or some guitar comping or something to really bring out more of the piece.

Lastly, the mastering is a bit lack. For something more pop-ish like this, the piano is awfully reverb-heavy and distant feeling. The balance feels too centered for the piece as a whole (maybe using mono sound sources unpanned?). You might want to consider using a piano that is closer-mic'd and adjusting the pan and spread of the instruments.

Keep compos(ed/ing)!

Wow! This my first stab at Glitchop and Jazz. I am used to making DrumNbass. So i was expecting some criticism. Overall i am happy with results you gave me! Ofcourse i will improve my work and push myself to the limit. Thanks for the insightfull review and your time! :D

Not bad. Sounds very jazzy. I think it could've used a more human touch. Some more variation in the velocity levels. The drums sound particularly good.

YouriX responds:

Yeah i was afraid that i might use to much human elements xD
Glad you liked it anyways!

It's an interesting track, I'll give you that. Jazzy, lounge-like vibes meet modern electronic music. I absolutely love the glitched drums throughout the whole track with those rare dubstep bass wobbles here and there, and I think the fusion-oriented sound overall seems to work in this context.

I must however point out a couple of flaws, such as the general mix being a little too over compressed and loud that doesn't give much rest to your ears, and I definitely would have loved a more dynamic track speaking of mastering. The vocal samples while fitting, they suffer from the aforementioned problem and they sound a little too prominent compared to even the drums. The piano does its job quite decently although it doesn't really offer much in terms of composition and atmosphere. Smoothing the transitions could have also helped making this song more flowing and organic, perhaps by adding some sound effects and glitching them out, playing with stereo panning and bitcrushing. Just suggestions for the future.

Keep on experimenting with this idea, as I'm looking forward to hearing more.

Thank you very for the indepth review. You gave some very usefull information. Mixing was always a weak point of mine. But i am working on it. Thanks again for the wonderfull review and hope to see you review my work again in the future!
