Fading (Piano Improv)

Hey everyone, sorry for how long it has been since I last posted music! College life has been crazy hectic lately, and I haven't written music in months.

On the bright side of things, I just bought Native Instruments Komplete 9, and there is this amazing piano sound on there called The Giant. I may not have time to compose, but I figured I could at least squeeze out an improvisation to test out my new sonic palette. :)

This piece is a blind piano improvisation, meaning that there was absolutely no planning. I hit record and started making things up as I went. No quantizing, editing, mastering, or anything of the like. Just a very raw piece of music.

I'm hoping to properly compose some music soon, but in the interim, here is a mellow improv. Please enjoy.

(Since this is unmastered, you may have to turn your volume up. If you would like to use this in a game, video, etc, please contact me so that I can boost the levels and make this more usable for you!)

Edit: I just noticed that this piece got NG front page! Thank you all for your support and kindness. You are the best. :D

its really good it kinda reminds me of music from the game nier

I've been away from Newgrounds for so long and thought to upload a song of my own (first attempt at using a music program! Have a listen? :) ) when I saw this song. I remember listening to your music many years ago, and just closing my eyes and enjoying them... this song has so much emotion put into it. Been going through a bit of a rough patch in my life recently, and this song, though sad, definitely helps ease my mind a bit, I love it! Beautiful! Keep it up, and thanks for such amazing music!

BlazingDragon responds:

Thank you for coming back after all these years and listening to my music. :) I'll give your piece a listen right now!

All I have to say is wow :o

BlazingDragon responds:

Thanks!

Haha, somebody seems to know their theory, or at least their harmony. I really, really enjoy your use of of functional chords when they happened. At around 1:15 (I think) you improvised a secondary leading tone through a diminished chord, which is awesome in that it was improvised. I really enjoyed the structure of this too. Your improvisational chops are just astonishing. Spectacular. 5/5

BlazingDragon responds:

It's great to find someone else who knows their stuff!

When I took music theory classes, it seemed like most of my class mates were bored and hated it. I tell you though, I loved it. Every time we learned a new concept like circle progressions, secondary dominants, borrowed chords, neapolitans, augmented sixths, tri-tone substitutions, modes, or anything else, I'd run to the piano and see if I could write a song using the new harmonic vocabulary. I'm still pretty lousy improvising outside of the key of C unfortunately, and my technique is minimal for a pianist. I don't know my arpeggios and just barely finished learning all my minor scales. I have a lot of awesome, sweeping lines in my head when I improvise, but I can't pull it off. So I mostly rely on memorable melodic lines and beautiful harmonies.

Haha, look, you got me ranting! This is what happens when music theory gets brought up. XD
Thank you very much for your review, and Merry Christmas!

That's pure talent right there. I felt a genuine sense of serenity mixed with a bit of loneliness throughout this piece, and the fact that this was done through a blind improv, too, is amazing. Keep up the awesome work, man. I'll definitely be watching out for more of your work.

BlazingDragon responds:

Thank you so much! Please stay tuned for more of my work to come. :)
