Timmy's First Board Game

Here at last is my entry for Newgrounds' Voice Acting Contest 11.

Timmy has never played a board game in his life, but now his friend, Mal, is pressuring him to play his very first. The catch is, it's supposedly cursed and no one has ever won. Transformations ensure.

Personally, it's not the greatest accomplishment I've ever made, but for what it is, it's okay. I actually think I did better in the mixing department than expected. I don't expect to win anything, but hopefully someone will enjoy this.

amazing voice acting but the woman voice was meh

moonvamp responds:

Indeed. The woman's voice was my biggest regret when I finished this. It doesn't really suit my vocal range at all. I should have gone with a more husky woman's voice, but oh well. Thank you though for liking it for what it is.

VAC 11 Judge Review:

The length of this piece I actually found appropriate for the story. Seems like you put a ton of work into both the acting and the plot. Very nice work! I laughed a couple of times and I was always interested in what was going to happen next. The mixing was great and the music and sound effects were all perfectly chosen and placed, really adding to the general mood of the piece. Your vocal range was quite good and what I’m most impressed by is the balance this story has. There was a clear beginning, middle, and end, though I don’t know if I completely understood the end hahahaha. My only real critique is that the vocals were too dry. I think they could have benefitted from some reverb to make it sound like they were in the same spooky space as the sound effects and whatnot. Otherwise, this was a really fantastic entry, one of the most entertaining on the list. Superb work!

moonvamp responds:

Thank you kindly for the critique and compliments. Yeah, I should definitely take reverb into account whenever the story is in that kind of setting. I'm glad you enjoyed it overall.

I liked the characters but at first I was a bit confused might have been my "craptop" speakers listening on the go. I liked the plot and how the characters changed. A bit of sexual gratuity never hurt any one. I hear tons of energy in your voice and that is not necessarily a bad thing and you do funnel it well. When listening to it the second time I picked up on some hidden reference that blew by to quick the first time. I am happy that whinny Timmy gets his wish. The mixing was great and made you piece easy on the ears.

This was hugely entertaining! I can definitely see what some of these other reviewers are saying about some of the main voices sounding like the same actor, but Mal, Female Timmy, the cockroach and the demon are all quite varied. I think the piece would be stronger without the other, goofier character.

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself though; the contest requirements create a significant challenge. Very few actors are capable of delineating three completely distinct characters without any visual aid (Seth MacFarlane plays Brian and Tom Tucker with essentially the same voice, but nobody notices because the characters look so different).

Other than that I should mention that this is a very good sketch. You've mixed it quite well; I couldn't hear any of the echoes that PiperAnn described (but she might have better ears than me). The, "your mom says that about everything!" joke absolutely killed me!

This is pretty good, I liked it nice effects and ambiance, But here is my thing. I can tell its all relatively you, well the first three actually, just kind of all the same person but with different emotional undertones I guess you could say. Timmy is kinda well whiney, as to where the others seem more confident, it seems like 3 sides to the same die lol. The others were good, though they kinda sat out more (except woman Timmy he kinda just got a higher pitch.) But this is a review with my opinion so I may be completely off of what everyone else thinks.

Anywho lovely contest entry I don't stand a chance! XD I lack effects and well clarity when compared to yours!

moonvamp responds:

There's nothing lovely about not being able to get into character. If you thought right away that the characters I mainly voiced were me, then I have failed as a voice actor in this entry. I appreciate that you provided feedback on this. However, just because I had effects and clarity doesn't mean that this is a good voice acting effort nor does it mean I stand a better chance than you do for the contest.
