NGADM 13 - Round 3: SoundChris vs. Kor-Rune

Hey there people, this is my round three submission for the NGADM´13. After latin and cinematic tracks i now have decided to create a jazz piece inspired by the jazz style of the 1930ies. Hope you will like it :D

Keep the fingers crossed for me - i need it because my opponent is very strong!

NGADM Review

I was snapping my fingers and tapping my feet throughout the entire track – you have a knack for creating very interesting, snazzy songs! The overall jazz mood was absolutely questions about it. In my opinion, the piano/brass combination was the highlight of the track. As stated above, the listener cannot help but bop their head or tap their toes to the expressive style of these instruments.

I cannot believe I am about to say this would have been nice to hear just a tiny bit of a break (or breaks) throughout the track so that the overall mood can just sink in for a second. I agree with Bassfiddlejones when he said that everything sounded “a little hectic”. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it would have been cool to hear a short, slower jazz section with some soft brass. The percussion, while great, could use a little more mixing.

Great stuff SoundChris, yet another catchy track. Keep it up, my friend! :)

Score: 9/10

This is an NGADM Round 3 Review.

What an interesting track!

What I liked:
-You definitely nail that 30's jazz mood, I like it.
-Excellent piano work! Love that rag time feel.
-Great chord progressions in general.
-That last chord is money.

What could have been better:
-I would have liked to see you let this song breathe a little bit at times. It feels a little hectic, which may be what you're going for, but I think it could benefit from some more openness.
-Few things hold you back in this song - I think the sample quality for some of the instruments is a minor issue when they are exposed , but overall they actually sound quite good and realistic.
-The drums aren't mixed too well compared to the rest of the instruments.

This is an awesome, creative and unique track. Excellent job, you're full of surprises!

Thanks a lot for your kind review! I am really glad you liked the piece. Maybe the insertion of a relexing sequence would have been a good idea - maybe i will make a revised version of this track where i will fix the cymbals, piano loudness and some other little details. Creating this track has been really fun for me and i am sure there will be more jazz pieces out there, soon (the work on one special track is already in progress :D ).

So thanks a lot for your useful review! All the best,

Meh... now where's that replay button?
I liked the flute or whatever the hell you had in there. I'm not good on instruments but I sure do like music. This is a nice track, and the name of it reeled me in.
I'm not the best when it comes to rating things, excuse anything obviously wrong on my review. If you haven't listened to it yet, WTFH are you waiting for?

SoundChris responds:

Thanks Hardbash for your kind review - glad you liked it :D The instruments i have used are piano, upright bass, jazz drumset, several trombone patches, alto and tenor saxophones.

Best wishes to you!

A beautiful jazz piece here. Its nice because you can hear the instruments, there are no singers to ruin that like many song like this do and I really do feel like i am in a noir movie when i just sit here and listen to this piece.
