My entry for round 3 of the NGADM '13. Going for an adventure/fantasy type of sound.
Stephanie Luna on violin/cello duet.
UPDATE - 02/16/2015: I uploaded a remastered version of this track.
If this doesn't scream Golden Dun, then en I don't know what does. This has the perfecct.
the song tells a story,
i see a man coming back from war in triumph, a son is bore, father assassinated, son leaves to take revenge, epic battle, victory!
This is an NGADM Round 3 Review.
Wow, what an incredible piece!
What I liked:
-Just about everything.
-Your composition skills are fantastic.
-The sound quality is tremendous.
-A lot of "cinematic" composers shy away from woodwinds, but you skillfully employ them here with great results!
-I love the fact that you're not afraid to change tempos, and it's quite effective.
-The whole build from 2:38 onward.
What could have been better:
-There are some very small intonation issues in the solo string section, but they are negliable.
-I might be hearing some bassy distortion near the end
-There are some parallel fifths in the end which sound a little odd compared to the rest of the piece.
I'm very impressed by this - you have done a masterful job. The only real gripe I have is that I feel as if the ending didn't adhere to the same quality portrayed throughout the rest of the piece. It's a shame you had to drop out of the competition, I really think you could have won!
I cannot get over the amount of detail and the amazing orchestration and instrumentation in this track. The mixing, pacing, thematic choice, overall instrument quality....everything is phenomenal. The theme of this piece is particularly exciting and uplifting, and with a title like 'Mystical Mountain' you can't help but smile at the magnificence of this piece. I can only praise your musical talent!
The only thing I can really complain about is that this track has that quintessential generic Hollywood sound about it. Now...don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that per say, it's just that it doesn't sound quite as unique as it could, you know? The different sections seem to be connected for sure, but they also feel just slightly disjointed, too. Regardless...this is too fantastic.
I have nothing more to say. I love this. :)
Fantastic piece as always. I just love each and every new piece you submit, simply because they're just so well-composed that it hurts. I really love the feel in this one, as the adventurous/majestic feel is one that I'm particularly fond off in orchestral music. You've got great harmonies, great instrumentation, great composition, great everything really. Those strings are just stupendous, and the backing instruments are pretty amazing too.
Honestly the one I thing I could find to complain about was the lack of a instantly discernible motif, and a couple of mixing issues, both of which are nothing particularly major to worry about. Your percussion is also superb, and you developed the melodies you had very well from start to finish.
Overall, every single detail in this piece is just of an amazingly high quality, and everything just fits together to making something truly incredible. Keep up the great work!
