Trouble In Platformerville is one of four songs I composed for a game for the Ludum Dare 27 Jam, a 72 hour game making competition. This song was composed those the 72 hours (to be more specific, exactly 2.5 hours, including one false start).

It includes a bass solo, a trance breakdown, and a lot of grooviness!

The funny thing is that I was sure it wasn't going to be any good because I started off by basically making it as cliche as possible (especially that trance breakdown), after about an hour I was surprised by how much I was enjoying it and how well it was coming out.

As well as a 2.5 hour song can come out anyways. ;-P

The game can be found here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=3187 (though currently it's missing a build to play - that should be coming up shortly).

The rest of the songs I wrote can be found on the bandcamp album here: http://johnfn.bandcamp.com/album/trouble-in-platformville-or-how-i-accidentally-caused-the-world-to-nearly-explode-in-ten-seconds-and-subsequently-reverted-the-damage-thanks-to-technology-i-dont-understand-the-soundtrack-to-the

(But none of the others are nearly as good).

Oh, wait...yeah, I totally missed this one. This was uploaded when my internet was screwed up. Sorry. Anyway, it's very groovy and melodic. I like the instruments a lot. It loops well, too. I thought the key change at :55 actually worked really well to channel the energy of the song, but I think the transition at 1:52 still needs some work. Still, it's a well-structured and atmospherically pleasing piece. Good job! ;D

johnfn responds:

Thanks for eventually making it! I've been doing a lot of thinking about modulations (key changes), and they really give a song a burst of freshness! I definitely plan on using them more :D

Though I have no idea what you mean by transition at 1:52, there's no transition there xD. Maybe the 1:35 one, that was kinda sloppy.

Thanks as always!

I like the beginning the most. If this is for a game though I am not sure how that breakdown works in with it but it did sound good. :)

johnfn responds:

It's funny you say that because when I was working on this I liked the beginning the least! However I did like it enough to keep it in, so there's that. ;-P The breakdown is kinda funny, makes everything seem magical (those arp sweeps!). Thanks as ever for dropping by :-)

EDIT: Arg, owe you some reviews... will be sweeping in later to spam your stuff.
