Well, round 2 of the NGADM is coming to a close and this is my piece. It was started this afternoon.
I originally planned on doing an epic piece that involved recording a bunch of live performers. Piano, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, cello, vocals, drums, and violin. I even had the song mostly written up. Due to schedule conflicts though, I wasn't able to pull it off, and I had no fall back plan. Silly me.
I've learned an important lesson as a result of this: ALWAYS have a Plan B! This little piece is mostly improvisation and surely won't hold up against my competitor, Kor-Rune, who won the entire competition last year.
In the end, I'm just happy to have SOMETHING to submit.
The contest was fun while it lasted. :)
I like how at 1:30 you make a little up beat. I hope to hear more music from you soon.
P.S It is ok to have a short song. :)

What I liked:
- Quite well played and arranged. Effective in simplicity. I'm a big fan of this theory, that something doesn't have to be an epic score with hundreds of instruments all strutting their stuff just for a song to be good.
- I love your piano sound.
- The ending section was quite something to listen to.. in a good way.
What I didn't:
- First and foremost, too short. I would have loved to hear this fleshed out a bit more.
- There isn't really a conclusive ending. It just sort of... stops... just as it's getting interesting.
Overall:
Great start to something that never really comes into its full potential. Still, I did really enjoy what was there.

Wow, I find this review incredibly ironic. I consider you to probably be the strictest judge and yet you gave me the highest score. Other people seemed to hate the ending section, but you really liked it. Funny how people can have such different opinions about the same piece, right? Haha. :)

The piano is just beautiful. You've got excellent melodies, excellent dynamics, and a piano that sounds entirely human and not robotic at all throughout. Unfortunately, the drumset just doesn't fit in with it and sounded kind of weird and abrupt when it came in.
Composition wise, the development of the piece is a bit lacking. You've essentially got one unchanging theme that doesn't really go anywhere, and the ending itself is a bit too abrupt and generic for my tastes. Could definitely use more work in this regard.
Overall, a decent piece, but not exactly your best.
Score: 7.6/10

Unfortunately, this ended up being a piano improv with some instruments thrown on top rather than a thoughtful composition. It was literally written in a couple of hours. Agreed that it is not my best. :-/

The Good:
-Intro piano is quite well-played and beautiful.
-Actually, all the piano is well-played and pretty beautiful. The soloing in the final section is very good as well.
The Not-So-Good:
-Why the hell do you have a drumset in this? :v It feels so out-of-place.
-Disappointing lack of compositional technique, the piece is just one constant change without any particular theme.
-Ending is kinda boring and generic, not the worst though.
Overall: Score of 6/10. You can do better than this. Unfortunate that your other song didn't work out. :(
