This is the first time I have recorded my music, so It is all a bit experimental. Still in progress. I hope you enjoy it.

Starts of nice and slow with piano and base. At 0:35 it sounds pretty good aside from a couple of amplification issues. 0:56 I really start getting into and it sounds great. I keep that going until 1:21 when i go into the bridge. Than i do some experimenting with the different percussion at 1:37. After that I keep trying different things out and seeing what I like. Than I go into my lame transition to the acoustic piano. The acoustic piano was a little out of tune, but overall I think it sounded great.

Instruments Used:
Yamaha Keyboard
Drum Kit
Mason Hamlin Piano
Djembe
Hand Drum
Maracas
Bell Set

Love love LOVED the ending piano piece! Thought the percussion volume was a bit loud and robbed some of the chill ambiance the other instruments provided. Also, were you thinking of adding some vocals to the finished product? Keep up the good work :)

DaAtheno responds:

Glad you liked it. Next time I guess Ill tone the drums down if Im doing something like this. It was my first time recording this stuff, so I was really just experimenting. Anyways I had no plans for vocals, but maybe I will try that to.

Great Job! I'd say this is probably one of the best songs I've heard in a while. I like the way this song is 'held back' and not going crazy with drums. It seems to me this song makes the rests feel important, and dramatic... which more songs should do these days.

DaAtheno responds:

Thanks tommy, glad you liked it. Also glad to see your still around, thought you disappeared.

Interesting. Your composition skills are quite good, I felt everything had a really nice flow to it. Its sort of aerie and creepy at the beginning and has a cool ambient sound. Production could be better, but it isn't too bad at all! My first track certainly didn't sound this good. I think the cymbals are a bit too loud though and they could benefit from some compression.

But overall, Good work! Nice use of real instruments too! You don't see that very often with virtual instruments nowadays.

However, I think you may benefit from trying a different DAW. Audacity is good for free, but you have so much more power in a full featured DAW. I use Reaper DAW, They have a great free trial. Check it out.

DaAtheno responds:

I am glad you enjoyed it! I agree that you don't hear much in the way of real instruments here on NG. It is a little too synthetic in my opinion. Probably half of what's made here was composed in fruity loops (although I still enjoy it).

Also thanks for the suggestion with the DAW, I will try reaper out at some point and look around for what else is available.
