UPDATED VERSION: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/532541
Overhaul of http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/526462, converting it into an orchestral track.
Made in LMMS 0.4.14-rc1 on Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS using FluidR3_GM, TimGM6mb, and some samples. Time signature is 3/4; tempo is 164 BPM; encoded in VBR MP3 @ 320 kbps; sample rate is 48000 Hz.
If you wish to use this song for anything, just credit me and go right ahead.
UPDATE 1: Changed a few chords slightly. Added a few more cymbals in.
UPDATE 2: Battle Experiment #17.2 can be found at http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/532541
I love how this project has advanced over the course of time; the flute and the strings are great, with a very complex interweaving of the melodies of both.
I would suggest your replace the snare with an orchestral "hit," so that we still get the impact in the right places, but instead of being the same "Whack, whack, whack-whack-whack-whack," we get the final piece of the melody to complete the overall puzzle of notes.
Very good work!
Sorry for the slow response; I'm very bad at keeping up with notifications here, and only realized you'd posted a review after I uploaded B.E. #17.2. Thanks for the feedback; if I roll out a B.E. #17.3, I may incorporate some of those changes.
It's very engaging and energetic, which is good. I wish you varied it a little more, and the drums got really repetitive, but I like the instruments and melody. Given the lack of variation, I didn't think it needed to be 5 1/2 minutes long, but as background music for a game, it serves its purpose. It ends a little suddenly, but if it was a part of a game, it would probably just loop, so it's okay. Overall, good job, and keep up the good work. ;)
Thanks for the feedback!
Looking back on it, I do agree that it could use a bit more variety, especially in terms of its beat. I may upload an updated version at some point in the future. The length is explained by the fact that I looped it twice; the actual song itself is less than 2:00.
