The light that emitted from Subject 00-001's eyes was the cause of the devices first safety modification: Goggle-like facial coverage intended to contain the harsh light without impairing the users vision. This seemed at first to be an overly-cautious measure due to the exclusivity of Subject 00-001's condition. No other subjects displayed the affliction upon dawning the device.
The second appearance of the affliction was in a member of the ThyrdJen research team that had been closely working with Subject 00-001. This was the first sign of any sort of contagious behavior on the part of the condition. Soon several GV subjects as well as several ThyrdJen employees were afflicted -- bright white lights beaming from both their eyes. Any affected persons were quarantined and studied. Once afflicted, a host began to display aggressive tendencies and outwardly anti-social behavior. Certain subjects seemed to lose drastic amounts of memory and the capacity for critical thought, including that which allowed them to speak or communicate in any way. Despite this condition that had spread to about 20 individuals, the project was deemed success and the Grudge Vessel was released to the public after 15 weeks. Those with Subject 00-001's affliction were quarantined in the underground lab. The afflicted could most often be found huddled together tightly in the corner of their room. Still and quiet.
It was not long before the affliction found it's way to the surface and reports of glowing eyes and violent outbursts started spreading throughout the whole world as well as through the recently populated cosmos including the moon colonies and even near by human-occupied planets. The Grudge Vessels were recalled due to their association with the affliction but not one device was returned. Grudge Vessels were outlawed but to this day there have been no confirmed reports of a device ever being successfully removed from a user.
