Probably for the MAC 8bit contest.

I thought about doing an oldschool scene-ist track. But I hadn't have inspiration for that. I finally ended up doing a video game esque song.

First started out as a module S3M, but in the thirst of effects, switched to Impulse then finally ended up using Renoise. I thought of doing 4channels oldschool too, just had no good idea for it.

Half of the samples are raw recorded from Atari 2600, C64, Game Boy, SNES (thanked to friends). However because of the said thirst of effect, they were heavily post produced, especially the C64 due to quality loss :( during recording.

Please leave a review if you can :). Thank you.

Wow! This is an intense chiptune man, very complex in some ways, yet subtle in others. The melody is really intriguing, though at times it seems somewhat random (in a good way, of course). Keep it up man! :)

Damn, that bass and catchy rhythm. I love how you just have everything everywhere. (was that planned, or did you just randomly place sounds? lol)

Anyways, the song is really catchy, and enjoyable. slightly harsh on the ears, but that's prolly just me. I really like this song, however I feel that there is that element of story missing. (This is more of a video game theme, then a song, whereas themes tend to loop. I'm not saying that this isn't good, cause believe me it is!!!! I just feel that it lacks in change of feel, and depth. No biggy though, it's not effecting my score for your song. I just thought I'd give you my opinion.

:) 5 hours of work. No randomly placed sounds. Everything was placed precisely and accurately.

If you think it sounds harsh, wait until you listen to the raw out of the box samples I recorded, they were impossible to mix properly. The current song is under heavy post processing.

I don't plan to create a lengthy song bases off some story. I gave myself a simple goal as to create an expressive and abstractive product that represents the regular expression, regex. Regex is a specific pattern in programming that provides concise and flexible means to match specify and recognize strings of text. Create a song about regex, is to feature that definition in music.

Very good opinions though. Thank you for your reviews a lot.

So many different platforms. The result is great. Mysterious, and a bit tribal because of the panned drums, some of the sounds remind of dulcimers and other exotic instruments.

Thanks for your reviews :) and the help on recording C64 sounds.

Irregular expression no doubt. I was thinking more of Atlantis than birds. Like driving an underwater car on an underwater highway in an underwater city. Really nice choices that do fit the videogame kind of song, but I think there could have been more thematic depth to it. Yeah, there are so many wonderful effects going on here, but the melodies and setups stayed too constant for me. I guess when it comes down to really analyzing an 8-bit song on its own, without the videogame's story and visuals to back it up, catchy melodies and changeups are crucial. Not to say that you don't have one, I personally just think there could have been more development with it. Anyways, nice song!
