Slow, dark and brooding with tremolo guitars for the main theme. Piano uplifts midway through building to the climax guitar solo and outro.
Gordon sat down on the hood of a burnt-out car. He surveyed the wreckage of the city block around him. The sounds of the battle for City 17 echoed in the distance. Alyx stood a few feet away, leaning on Dog, and looking at him. Gordon looked down at the blood-stained crowbar in his hand. He could feel the pounding of his own blood in his fingers as he gripped the cold metal...or was that the approach of steel-tipped boots?
Absolutely an amazing job well done, Ghost. I feel a great sense of finality, or at least the hope for it, in this song. This is like the third or fourth play through as I find my words and the song just took off again. It may be the end of the Combine on Earth, but the war is far from over.
A spray of bullets hailed from down the block. Dog flung Alyx behind him to shield her but she rolled around him and began returning fire. The rounds barely scratched the paint. Gordon rolled behind the car, but not before he felt the cold punch of a bullet in his chest. The HEV reacted and a slight prick in his arm told him morphine was on the way. He glanced down only to see a pretty dent in the middle of the lambda on his chest. Gordon secretly thanked Izzy for the HEV MkII as a warm calm flooded him. He took a deep breath as he raised the stolen Combine rifle. The boots were getting closer. Gordon leaned around the car and opened fire on the Overwatch squad. The world exploded around him and he was thrown through the remains of a wall. In a daze he could hear the staggered stomping that made his heart sink in fear. As the Strider rounded the corner, charging its gun, Gordon braced for death. Instead came the roar of Dog as the gorilla of a robot jumped from the crumbling roof of the next building. Gordon wondered if Striders new fear. That one was about to learn...
Thanks for the review man! Very descriptive writing you have there. I can see the scenes with the track playing in the background. This was a vibe I came up with sort of playing off of a Linkin Park / Clubbed to Death merger. Now we just need a talented animator to put your storyboard to visuals with this as the background theme :-)
I like it! Sounds like something (forgive me) from a Mother game at the beginning then took a new age spin. Very nice work.
Thanks for the comment Master1up - I think of this more as a game soundtrack but there isn't exactly a category for that.
