Hello Newgrounds! It's finally here. Were you able to guess that this was the remix I was doing?

The original Fallen Blood teaser tune by Phyrnna: http://www.newgrounds.com /audio/listen/470739

I listened to Phyrnna's teaser of Fallen Blood and liked it a lot. I liked it that it was rare that I've heard her make anything in the key of E [minor] and that it reminded me of and inspired me to do a remix that echoes closesly to Clint Bajakian's "Research Facility/Jabba's Ship" theme from Star Wars: Dark Forces, going for a march-like feel.

I had a block for awhile on how to finish the song but in the end, I pushed to finish hard.

I originally did this project on my white MacBook, up until the time the amount of software instruments I needed/wanted exceeded the 32 track limit! So, then I moved the project to my new MacBook Pro and finished from there.

I suppose that's all I'd like to share for now.

Software used:
GarageBand '11
Boldt Instruments (choir)
AMG Expansion Pack (trumpet)
Symphony Orchestra Jam Pack

disclaimer:
this is just a blind remix of an original work, as I've never heard the full version as of the time of this upload.

I wish HalcyonicFalconX the best of luck with her final products when Epic Battle Fantasy IV comes out.

Awesome job, FTA!! When you did your teaser, it confused me to no end since it was a remix for a song that itself was a teaser. We probably won't have to wait too long for that to be corrected. HFX mentioned on Facebook that she will be posting a complete song sometime today.

As for the piece, you did an excellent job remixing such a short sample. You also did a fairly good job matching the style closely to what you intended (Research Facility/Jabba's Ship). I agree with what ZStriefel said below about the dark, Imperial mood.... excellently done!

The only problem I have with it is starting at 3:27 when the trumpet comes into focus. It starts out ok, but quickly at 3:29 it sounds tinny and flat (like the sound-font it is)... especially so when it starts the 32nd (?) notes at 3:32. It continues like this until the crescendo at 3:40... where it sounds not so much different as appropriate to the call and response section there. I know you were trying to imitate the guitar that comes in on the original piece. Aside from the small section I mentioned, I think you got that imitation pretty correct (especially after re-listening to the original).

Overall, excellently done on such a short sample.... especially so considering the difficulty of doing a remix on a piece that has not yet been released fully to the public. Like you, I await the final product. As ZStriefel mentions below: "It truly is the musician that makes the difference." Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks for your review!

It's true that I'd like to tweak the trumpet in some way. At some point I thought of using a different AMG trumpet but just fell into being used to this one.

Thank you for noticing the woodwinds that paid homage to the electric guitar of the teaser. And as I've said with ZStriefel, it feels good to be able to work well with tools I'm really accustomed to, no matter the limits. Always looking to improve as I use it more.
