I wrote this piece late November last year as an expression of my own march to freedom, having found a new job and taking a step in a new direction. I find that the energy I instilled in this piece returns to me to some degree when I listen to it each time.
The first half commences with the drums sounding out a march-like beat and the yearning expressed in the clarinet's melody and builds tension until the piece explodes in the second half with a strong and steady rhythm, providing a solid foundation for the strings that take over from the clarinet.
As a side comment, it seems like I have developed a tendency for an epic sound in my pieces... :D
