The war was coming to a close when it happened, the Alunite retrieved a nuclear warhead from the Zone and launched it at themselves. Their final transmission was 'We will be reborn in the fires of retribution!' For a time all sides came to a truce to rejoice that an enemy had fallen, but after a short time, scavengers went into the Alunite's irradiated zone and returned with stories of the dead rising. At first all sides dismissed it as a hoax, but then there were reports of homicidal madmen who felt no pain. Then the factions became paranoid and pointed fingers at one another. Conflict started again and the homicidal dead began to grow, the tore down the racist radicals and focused attention on the Revolutionaries. That was when they were seen as real threats. The Revolutionaries and the Loyalists formed the Cael pact and went about removing the undead infestation. I remember watching the signing of the pact, the two sides realized they had similar goals and decided that if they were to keep the ship afloat, they needed to ally. But for a time it seemed that even this may not have been enough.
Sounds very nice, though slightly repetitive. The tone gave the impression that many had died from a horrible enemy, and that enemy was encroaching upon the remaining people, who were fighing tooth and nail to survive.
