This song features a full band and was recorded on my home studio in my living room. Featuring my friends Scott Schaffer on bass, Tim Correll on vocals, Steve Goldberg on drums, Khalid Ilahi on second guitar. I wrote and arranged the song as well as played guitar.

LYRICS
Can't protect me from my past
from all the things I've lost
All these things happened so fast
the truth I tried to gloss

You left me forever
when I needed you the most
this can't happen to me
it hit home far too close...

When I said goodbye to you
it seemed like a normal day
you know fate's plan was due
to its game you fell prey

ashes to ashes
dust everythings dust
Life flashes before me
my iron turns to rust

(CHORUS)
Winds of a storm are crushing the air
They leave me alone in the cold and despair
Who gives me reason, who has the might?
To give give me the strength to stand up and fight

Reality forces me to another day
Burning my bridges I can't look away
Stand on my own and get ready for war
on Wings of Tomorrow skyward I soar

Today I try to believe
Believe in a reason why
I should face what fate has weaved
And learn again to fly

I stood at your grave
and realized you weren't there
I walk away to the wind
You whisper, "Don't despair..."

(CHORUS)
Winds of a storm are crushing the air
They leave me alone in the cold and despair
Who gives me reason, who has the might?
To give give me the strength to stand up and fight

Reality forces me to another day
Burning my bridges I can't look away
Stand on my own and get ready for war
on Wings of Tomorrow skyward I soar

Solos - Dan - Khalid - Dan

(CHORUS)
Winds of a storm are crushing the air
They leave me alone in the cold and despair
Who gives me reason, who has the might?
To give give me the strength to stand up and fight

Reality forces me to another day
Burning my bridges I can't look away
Stand on my own and get ready for war
on Wings of Tomorrow skyward I soar

Nice Track. A couple thoughts on it (feel free to disregard these if you don't agree lol):

Liked:
1) I liked the composition of the song. It screamed rock, and it has a unique sound.
2) The solos were great. Some real skill there.
3) The vocalist can sing. I actually really like the vocals.

Disliked:
1) There was a ride, maybe a crash idk, but it was a bit too loud for me right around the 1:00 mark.
2) The vocals were also might have been a touch too loud in a couple parts.

All in all, i like the track. It's a style I like and I thought it was well written. Nice job.

Hey SmithBA. Thanks for taking the time to listen! I always keep my ears open for constructive critism: it helps me hear things I may have missed and improve the quality of my recordings.
I agree with your dislikes: the mix could use some work, no doubt. I am taking another stab at this song by re-recording it for an upcoming EP I am releasing. I'll actually have a recording engineer to help me out rather than trying to do it all myself! We'll see if I can do a better job!
Take care! Up the irons! \m/

Wow I just stumbled upon this. Its fantastic lyrically, and the guitar playing is awesome. Reminds me of a Metallica song....and I mean that in a compliment. Great little song! I will stay tuned for more from you! Good stuff!

It's nice to hear another song with vocals on Newgrounds. Even more so when there's a very solid composition involved. I usually don't write reviews for vocals, so there's not much advice I can give in that regard. The only thing I can say about the singing, is that it sounded good enough to my ears.

One thing that struck me with the composition, is how varied it is, which is really good as rock songs sometimes tend to share the same basic structures. The guitars sound quite epic, but the solo from 03:10 - 03:22 sounds a bit sloppy (even though I can't play anything like that), and it may have been worth refining it a bit more. Other than that, the composition and arrangement were great!

The mix is decent, although it could have used a bit more tweaking. The hi-hats, for example, are too loud in some parts, and the vocals could stand out a bit more. In general, it would've been better to make sure the instruments nicely blended into the mix.

All in all, a really nice piece!

Hi Eagle! I really appreciate the constructive criticism! This was one of my first forays into recording anything but my guitars (I recorded drums, guitars, bass and vocals in my living room), so I can definitely use the practice! Its nice to have a 3rd party point out problems in the mix. After working on a piece for so long... sometimes you can't hear that stuff after awhile.
CHEERS!
