HUGE thanks to camoshark and his friends in the brass section and camoshark himself for the dumbek playing c: THANK YOU CASH ILY <3
I should've spent more time on the vocals. :C I will eventually redo them but this is the heart of the song.
EDIT: FIXED but mix was still preeetty rushed
EDIT2: better vocals, better mix!
It's lately the moon seems so boring, so dreary
My webbed feet are weary, so fly me to Blue
Comets can't compare to the vast view
The big Blue calls my name now, she's speaking to me
Though lately the big Blue seems hostile and a bit scary
My foreign figure is frightful, but I'm afraid..
So scared of all those bipeds, they're monsters
The big Blue needs more time now, some time to grow,
Before I leave here
I'll need some kind of disaster
A guaranteed extinction
But I won't need any help,
They'll off themselves
My moon stuck in stillframe, it's lonely and freezing
Maybe that near star will warm me and love me come morning
Should it fail, I'll know the thing to do:
Fly to Blue
NGADM 4 and stuff.
Really chill, this song really mellowed me out, nearly everything about it made me just sort of melt into my seat in relaxation. The guitar tone was absolutely fabulous, as well as the actual performance. And the more cohesive nature of it in comparison really did keep the song on a single track, and yet you still managed to keep it from sounding repetitive or redundant with little licks and alterations to the general flow of the song without ever really leaving the original feel. Really, was very well done.
My complaints here are fairly minor, but I've gotta mention them anyways. First the vocals didn't feel quite as inspired or as powerful as previous entries, while I'm not sure if this is due to being worn down from previous rounds, or if this was a conscious decision, it was something I did notice, and felt a little disappointed by.
And while this was masterfully composed, I do have to admit I wasn't really pulled in by it, it relaxed me, but I was still missing that chill that I usually get when I listen to something that really moves me or I hear something that I just want to listen to again and again... I can't really pinpoint what choices you would have made here that'd have caused that, and it could be just personal preference getting in the way.
Overall though, awesome track, not quite as powerful or memorable, but very cohesive and really sets you at ease. 8.5/10.
This is amazing! Compositionally and playing in general. Just has and amazing feel and P.S. Love that guitar!
This is very nice man! I'm not too involved in actual jazz, but this is wonderful.
My favorite track from NGADM (at least so far). Well, this is unfair, hit me in my weak spot, jazz. This track is complex, very well composed, excellent mix of electronics with live instruments recorded, well mixed and has voice to grab everyone's attention.
Awesome track (reminds me of Zappa, Vai and King Crimson).
Round 4! Wooooo! I have to say, you rose back up to what you were displaying in round 1 and went past it. That's great! ^_^ Also yay you get custom intro message to my review for getting to round 4.
-There is literally almost nothing about this that ISN'T pleasing to the ear. It has a great little groove, all the instruments fit together well, and the jazzy chords are really really sweet.
-I love the parts that camoshark and his friends added in.
-The little organ delays at 1:15-1:27 are very tasty.
-Mix is almost perfect, there is juuuuuust one little thing I'd like to comment on there.
-The lyrics are cute. c:
-YOU FIXED YOUR TRANSITIONS. OMG THANK YOU. x.x
-Here, I'll get the tiny mixing quibble out of the way first. I think the kick drum could have used a tiny bit more bass so that it could be more of a "base" sound (pun not intended).
-Some of the synths at about the very middle sound a bit awkward.
-While the transitions are great (including intro and outro), they can get a liiiiittle bit long. To tell the truth, a lot of the sections just sit there. The 2:15 long guitar solo section is one example of this. The intro is another. On the plus side, the syncopation keeps it interesting enough.
-Y u no brass moar? D:
Overall: I really have nothing more I could comment on aside from giving more and more compliments, so I'm just gonna say that this is getting a 9.85 from me (couldn't decide between 9.8 and 9.9). I think that'll be the highest score I'll give out in the entire NGADM, so. Yeah. Great work!
Wow! Thanks for the review! I appreciate the high score!
That's actually a guitar with a pitch shifter as opposed to an organ ;3 its so quiet though so yeah.
You's right about the kick drum. Wanted to get a little more bass boom but scrambled just to mix some things before the deadline XD
Yeah, we call those FILLER SYNTHS with FILLER FILTERS there in the middle. totally ran out of ideas LOL
No moar brass cause I was slow with getting the track to camoshark :C
ANYWAY THANKS FOR THE REVIEW!
