My absolute first NG audio entry (last, surely).
This here's my submission for the March/April Metal MAC12. I decided to run with something a bit different from the Heavy/Power and 'Core' Metal sub-genre stuff people have been submitting into said contest. Ended up with unorthodox (Avant-garde?) Black Metal with reallll irregular Dark Ambient, Doom, and Industrial influence tossed in the mess.

The track's dissonant and uneasy, definitely not for everyone. Buuuut, the atmosphere (hit the lights!) set by this uncommon style can hurl any interested listener through a starless, swirling pit of Cthulhu-goo... or whatever other nightmarish settings one might (mentally) unearth while tuning in.

Quoting Victor Wooten, "There is more to making music than just playing the 'right' notes", mhm!

This is a great song, it has a perfect melody, and relaxing, harmonic bass sections. It reminds me of the metal i've been listening to since i was a little kid. Thanks for the great music and great nostalgia.

I didn't know about the MAC contest until just now. After listening to almost all the songs that were posted (and there were definitely some good ones) I have to say yours was my favorite. I thought this piece was amazing. It was definitely cool to see something darker when most of the submissions were basically melodic death metal and metalcore and thrash/groove metal and whatnot.

I love experimental music. I love doom. I love ambient music. I love industrial. I love black metal. I think you nailed this and there was an incredible amount of talent and artistic innovation. Amazing atmosphere and the dissonance...I've never quite heard it done like that. Usually dissonance, when used, is so chaotic and grating, which is fine at times, but this became a beautiful harsh psychedelic dream of sorts, and it fit so well with everything else that was going on in the song, and there was a lot going on. All of that, along with passages of noisy war and yet touches of melody here and there, just made this so well-rounded and passionate. So much emotion to this song. And a range of emotions, too!

I definitely think it's one of the best songs I've heard here on newgrounds and it's just quite incredible and unique. As others pointed out, the mastering/mixing/production is just immaculate. Don't even hear that kind of good work on most "professional" big bands out there. I'm curious to know what went into the making of this song.

Ya, I'm digging this.
It just makes me feel evil inside. I really hope you put some lyrics to this for I would like to hear it!
I'm amazed at the clarity of all the sound, (like the others have said. Ha ha.) I wish I could get mine to sound like that.
Great job! After listening, it makes me feel like I shouldn't have submitted my entry. :P

RolandLaGoy responds:

Cool you like the mess! Evil's definitely what I was going for. Hah though, I feel the same (not so confident in my own entry) when I hear some of the guitar playing of the other submissions... some got real wild leads and super-tight playing, that's not my forte. But yeah, everyone's got room for improvement... good fun, either way.

Probably the most well mixed and mastered entry we have here. No clipping and just the right amount of loudness was sacrificed for atmosphere.

I'd say this is probably the highest contender for the winner I've seen so far. Certainly fits the description.

RolandLaGoy responds:

Hah... generous words, man. I'd worked on mixing the whole mess proper for some time before actually recording anything legit, though I still feel there's room for improvement... buuuut, who doesn't feel that way w/ their own audio sometimes, heh? Either way, whoever wins, it's nice to see everyone's take on Metal in the contest. Wild.
