Well, hello there!

As one might guess,
this is my march NAC submission...

Theme obviously was St-Patrick's so I won't elaborate on that....

Here's the instrumentation:
-violin (2)
-guitar
-double bass
-piano
-percussion
-piccolo
-trumpet(2)
-trombone(2)
-bass trombone

I was originaly planning on recording both violins, guitar, piano and percussion myself, and have camoshark record the trumpets parts, but I ran out of time for various reasons, and the bridge of my violin exploded (just 'cause)...

nevertheless, I finished writing 3 hours before the deadline, and managed to record the guit part and mix it very poorly in cubase because ableton live was going shitty...

I was also planning on adding "pub sounds" that camoshark and me recorded...
But since I lacked time, it will be added later once the judging is done...

So, please please vote and review, as critism is ood for improvement...

Enjoy!

This tune did not utilize very quality samples. This greatly detered from what could have been a really cool tune. I think the composition was very cool and would have sounding amazing on real instruments. The trouble with this error in music making, is that you don't give your creation any justice because it sounds like a MIDI song on Oregon Trail video game circa 1989. Your score suffered from the samples used, but the tune was very nice itself. Good job sticking to the contest criteria, this sounded very Irish.

Jiimaan responds:

hey!

using real instruments was indeed the plan, but shit happens,
and I was forced to submit it the way is now...

...and I'm not rich enough to get myself nice samples, so that's how it sounds...

I'm glad to read that you liked the composition, though...it's somewhat reassuring to know that it wasn't all crap...

anways, thanks for the review...

Really nice slow progression but sadly you lose points on the weak samples, sounds like a midi track from the 90s haha That would have been pretty damn awesome recorded with real instruments or at least with decent samples. I love the composition but yeah, points lost on samples.

Jiimaan responds:

hey!

I'm glad you liked it overall...

and yes, samples are always a weak point of my pieces...
but what do ya know, I'm poor, so I have to deal with what I have...

maybe someday...

as for real instruments, I was out of time (and had some fuc*ing major issues with my violin)

anyways, thanks for reviewing

hmm what is up with the volume of this song? I find this song is suffering from lack of quality samples, but after reading the desciption for this song it seems to have suffered from a regrettable rush job over anything really..

I would like to see what this song could have achieved if given more time and more dedication - still it's a cute little tune, I'll give you that.

7/10

Jiimaan responds:

ahh, if you knew the trouble the mixing gave me...

it is indeed a regretable rushed job...

I'll eventualy upload a better version of it, once all of the issues I had are fixed and once the contest it over, of course...maybe then you should check it out again...

thanks for the review...
