Layered Piece

So anyway Newgrounds, sorry for submitting such total crap and old stuff lately, but I figured I should submit something, right? This is another old piece of mine. It is based on somple piano pieces that I layered together for a game some buddies of mine were working on. All of the melodies I had initially made only took minutes to make. The whole idea was to create different moods by layering different melodies as the scene progresses. It was good for time management, as well as file space management. Unfortunately, the project never completely took off, and so I'll dump a part of my trials to you in the form of a complete song. I promise to make awesome stuff in the future. Also, I loosely based some of this off of my Life of a Butterfly piece....which, as old as it is, it is actually somewhat better composition-wise. So check it out when you get a chance. And don't forget to check out my vocal stuff too, like Despondancy, Oasis, and Sovngarde Chant!! Cheers!

~Steph

PS: Sorry for the quality too. This old piece is in the dump for now. I don't plan on making it any better. here's the original piano layered: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1 6892419/pianothememelody.

I really like the violin playing in it. Lovely tune very relaxing. Now I don't have a keen musical ear but the quality sounded really good. I notice the different layers of music and it is very fitting for a game a cool animation :P

Thanks buddy. :)

I guess I'm a little puzzled about why you'd post something you're not happy with ... I suppose if you have rabid NG fans that keep pestering you to put something out ... but even then you're not doing service to your reputation by releasing something that you wouldn't consider very good. On to some actual review ...

I actually like it in a general sense ... the layers are varied but still fit together, and manage to mostly stay actual layers, not just a garbled heap. Unfortunately, the key word is "mostly." They don't seem to quite fit right timing-wise (a little quantization would help perhaps?), which makes it super mushy by the end. Like where you were going, but the lack of polish ultimately kills the end result. Keep it up, you clearly know what you're doing.
