originally written as a ballad in late 1999, the rhythm and structure of the song has been entirely re-tuned since those days. The poppiness of the melody stays put, but the direction in which the song goes incorporates elements of punk and metal, smashing them into the bluesy twang of the verses and choruses. The vocals sound horrible, to me, and I'll re-record them before the final version. On the intended full-length album, the song before this is a minute long... aaaaand could be described as sludge screamo, just to segue this song with a bombastic punky explosion ending right before the poppy old-timey intro 'Chicken' starts with. That intro is missing here, partly because I just haven't recorded that other song yet.
p.s.: the lyrics aren't right. that's part of why i'll re-record the vocals :p
"Chickenshit"
to whom it may concern:
this letter would read better if it were burnt
are you happy? out there without me?
well if not, safe to say it's my fault
MEMORY SERVES ME HERE
A SHOULDER, A VOICE, EVEN AN EAR
OH AND MEMORY IS ALL I HAVE
WELL WHO COULD EVER ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE?
are you out there? are you cool?
well I'm sorry if my words don't always come out ahyight
I would say 'I love you' a thousand times
if it'd bring you a fucking mile closer to me
OH BUT MEMORY FAILS ME THERE
FOR IMAGINING IS ALL I CAN EVER DARE
ALL OF THOSE MEMORIES LIE AWAKE
FOR THE IDEAL IS ALL I SEEM TO TOLERATE
we're all in this until all of us are dead
so it's nice (so nice) to know
that I've had company on this sinking boat
BECAUSE MEMORY IS ALL I'LL EVER HAVE
AND DAMN THOSE BITTERSWEET MEMORIES ARE ALL I NEED

I really like it! i agree with what you said about vocals- not in the sense of the singing is bad, i think the singing is quite good, it just doesnt sound like the recording quality on the vocals are the best, other than that i think this tune is pretty damn good!
did i mention i was half-drunk while singing? that probably didn't help. i started drinking right before Blow Up The Sun, then recorded Not Supposed To Know, then did this. and by the time I sang this it was all kindsa horrible. but the whole song might get the redo. i just have no idea when. how soon is i have no idea? i have no idea. RE: my front page post. thanks for thinking the tune is damn good :) i was hesitant to record this for a long time, and then mind-boggled by the timing well enough to not be able to record for a long time, as well. but i think the arrangement came out well, i just think it needs to be a few hairs slower, a little quieter at the beginning, and then with better vocals. other than that... be well [+R]

Oh my goodness this is awesome. I always find myself humming Saving Face Machine or Chickenshit in the randomest places, then I gotta tell people to check you out haha. You're an amazing songwriter, keep it up man! :)
Hey, thank YOU for the friend-recommendations! I really appreciate any and all assistance in getting the proverbial word out about these songs. They may not always sound great, but at least they've got heart <3

This song is great. You're such a great acoustic/heavy artist that starting it off with that nice begining poppy/grungy riff is what really interested me in this song at first. Then the lyrics got me into it further and when I heard you start to use distortion I started waiting for the breakdown which sealed the deal. The switch up in tempo is great. Another great song. You say the lyrics aren't right but they kick ass as is. I can't wait for the re-recorded version though.
And another thing, I was reading the lyrics ahead of the song and when I read 'well I'm sorry if my words don't always come out ahyight.' I figured you made a typo but when you acutally said it like that I thought it was pretty funny.

absolutely fantastic!
I would buy this. Wow.
I like the lyrics, you have grade A writing I think. I think I'll be singing and humming this song this week.
The breakdown is awesome. I dunno, I can feel it in my body, ya know what I mean?
I like your sound as well, it sounds truly Grunge. A sounds that new stuff hasn't been able to find well since the early 90s.
I tried to find some kind constructive criticism, but every time i think of something, I can't suggest anything because everything adds to your unique sound, and I wouldn't want to suggest something that would talk away from something you have already found.
You've got yourself a new fan here, sirs :)
:) THANK YOU!

Turns a bad week into a good day.
Other than a more hi-quality recording, idk what you intend to do to make this legit. Only thing to mention would be the awesome lyrics, more pronunciation on the non vowels. Without those written lyrics, it was kinda hard to follow. Your vocals are more sick than what you've been putting out. Also, um... PsychoBilly. Yeah, dont know if you heard of this genre, but it reminds me of your tunes. anyway, badass dude, badass songs you be makin
thanks, and youre welcome for improving your week :))) yeah i mumble
