After one week of non-stop composing and fine-tuning, it is now finally done!
It is originally made for the Newgrounds Halloween Contest 2011.

I would really appreciate it if you drop a comment.

Programs used:

Sibelius
Cubase
VSL Special Edition PLUS (Standard Only)
VSL Orchestral Strings I + II (Standard Only)

UPDATE 15-Oct-11: New reverb, broader brass and string panning, woodwinds are now more in the center so they don't seem to be too close to the listener, better general mixing

UPDATE 29-Oct-11: Major change in the overall mix (everything sounds clearer now), minor change in the content, usage of a new VSTi for the strings

Wonderful!

very nice pacing! the beginning kind of reminds me of a track from Fable...

SilentTakedown responds:

I love Fable and it's music! It probably had a big impact on my musical style.
Thanks!

Perfect for halloween

This is a good song overall. I especially enjoy the mallet percussion, the xylophone is a perfect instrument for visualizing skeletons. It sounds like something out of an overture. your hard work definitly wasn't wasted.

SilentTakedown responds:

Thanks mate!

My favorite Halloween submission so far this year!

I love the instrumentation, and the dynamics of this piece are truly something to be proud of! :D

all of these instruments sound brilliant, and as a whole; I could seriously imagine this backing a hit series for Halloween time! This song is very reminiscent of Danny Elfman's work in both Nightmare Before Christmas/ Batman, and I realllllly dig it!
You've created quite the masterpiece here my friend, and I honestly don't know if there's much I would change about this; Amazing :)

I'm glad you like it. And you're like the fourth or fifth person to mention Elfman and Nightmare Before Christmas and I never really watched it. I was more thinking about John Williams at some point when I made the minor triad parallels with the flutes and glockenspiel at the beginning. Thanks again for the kind words and this review! :)

(Don't hit me but I also have not watched the first Batman movie. But I know the maintheme!)

Very good

The reason another commenter mentioned Christmas is maybe because this is so very very reminiscent of Nightmare Before Christmas, instrumentation in particular. In fact, I did a quick listen to a couple of those tracks just to make sure I didn't recognize a theme. :) There's one place in there that I could swear I recognized a theme/progression from somewhere ... but that could just be because you did such a good job of reproducing the style. :P

I could do without the off-beat cymbal hits 1:30ish ... I understand wanting to add variety, but I just find it distracting. Be confident in what you have and leave out that particular little gimmick. :)

Great job!

You're the second one to mention Nightmare before Christmas and I swear I never watched it. I really should do it to see how much I accidently copied from it. xD
Thanks for reviewing!
