Woot! Weekly Tops list achieved! Thanks guys!

Was feeling in the mood to create a metal ballad of sorts... Actually, that's a lie, I started out writing a classical piece, and decided I wanted to throw a chugging guitar on top of it instead of a flute or violin... And this is what came out.

Also, I'm sure someone is gonna complain that this isn't metal. Well, suck it up buttercup, it's got a chugging guitar in it, to me, that makes it a metal ballad, we don't have a genre listing for that, so I put it in the closest possible genre, which happens to be Heavy Metal.

Programs/VSTs used:
FL Studio
REAPER
Miroslav Philharmonik
EZDrummer

Very nice and original symphonic metal, thats what we like to hear in metal.

Glad you like it!

That really remind me of Jigoku Shojo! but a meta verion I suppose!

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

I've never actually seen it... I watched a couple episodes a while ago, but never actually continued it... I've been debating giving it another shot.

So I can't say I see the comparison, but glad you like it!

Love the piano of the song really well synched to the other instruments or is the piano the main instrument in the song? :P anyway it feels like there could be something more with the guitar but thats my opinion 5/5!! :D

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

There's a lot I could have done... but honestly, I'm not that great of a guitarist. And besides, I use the "Simple and effective" approach to music most of the time, I don't like being flashy or showboating... I just like writing music people can enjoy.

And if you enjoyed it, that's good enough for me!

Conceptually Fantastic! Not sure what it reminds me of exactly but I def like it.

I still have no idea how you get the brilliant piano tone!
It isn't the stock FL Studio keys is it?
Maybe Miroslav Philharmonik?

Again, good use of EZD (drawn through fl studio I'm guessing?) as subtle as its part is.

Guitar tone is definitely you. Very fat tone.

Would have mixed a little differently, but personal preference surely doesn't affect my score.
5/5 5/5(new rating is wierd mang)

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

Actually, the piano tone is very very simple... it's basically just one of the tones that comes with Miroslav Philharmonik tweaked a bit with compression, reverb, and an upped release time on the envelope to give it a little more presence.

And the guitar and drums I did in Reaper, I only did the piano in FL Studio, then moved the MP3 over to Reaper to record over top.

This guitar tone is my old favorite, is the first dual tone I created on my Line 6 POD X3 Live, I'm still quite fond of it, but the tone you hear in Above It All is definitely my new favorite... I love the tone in this one for rhythm... but it gets kind of sloppy when trying to play lead.

Yeah, the mixing has been a point of contention for a lot of people, I wanted to give both the guitar and piano equal footing, making it somewhat like a duet.. but a lot of people don't seem to agree. Oh well.

Thanks for the review!

ok....but

Your song was great but not heavy metal idk why its here, still good job

Back-From-Purgatory responds:

We don't have a "Metal Ballad" section, and this is certainly not rock, so it's in Heavy Metal.

Regardless, glad you like it.
