Here is my entry for the NGAP Dubstep Contest 2011

I tried to do a nice little post-dubstep song. Lot's of ambiance and a little guitar with light percussion.

Nice!

Great atmosphere, nice ambiance!
I'd say it's more two-step or garage rather then post-dubstep.
So It'd actually be more like proto-dubstep, but that came a bit after twostep. So it's pre-dubstep? :P
Nevermind, great song, keep it up! :D

thanks dude. oh man all those genres are confusing me. I don't even know what to call it. I guess sorta like burial but with more substance

Chill mmhm,

Tight man, really mellow, and garagey kinda. And lol at the comment about earthbound, I've been playing that for the last couple nights haha. I can see the resemblance, but I can't remember the moonside track, but I could definitely see this being in earthbound.

It sounds nice.

It has a very relaxing feel to it, and I enjoy it. The beat sounds complicated, but it also fits, which I like. Not sure if this fits the genre, it's more likely to be ambient. Or post-dubstep, if you say so.
I found the strings to be really strange. The pitch-bending fitted, but it sounded a bit weird. The song is also a bit repetive and gets boring after a while. Maybe you should've added some more sounds here and there, maybe some SFX.
Anyway, it's still a nice song, one I can enjoy.

Somber bliss of Boundness

I have no honest idea why but this tune heavily makes me think of Earthbound's Moonside which was far beyond bizarre. As a dubstep tune it sounds a lot more different from almost anything else I have heard so far as well. I guess this would be considered a really light ambient/dubstep mixed tune right? If it is then that seems to be cool to me. Kind of makes me remember weird things from my past which is also cool I suppose.

The very long ambient string notes sound really nice here and they also feel quite relaxing as well. The drums have a really light rhythm to them as if trying to calm down the user and make them relaxed while the shorter and quicker ambient synth notes kind of take it up a notch and make you feel rushed at the same time too. No bass here I see, that or it is just very lightly going on in the background and I can not tell that it is there.

I hope this comes close to winning in that contest as well. This is a very nice beat, I think this one turned out well. Good work here.

Overall, light nostalgic bliss.

SineRider responds:

I actually just recently got into earthbound myself. I wouldn't say this was directly inspired by that, but the music has been floating around in my head ever since I played it.

Yeah this isn't a straight up dubstep tune. Well it's more inspired by the old dubstep sound and mixed with ambiance and maybe some post-rock. I've heard people call this genre Post-dubstep. Look it up for some more music like this.

Well there is bass, just not a wobble bass. Straight up sub-bass ;)

Thanks for the review :)
